Future Board Updates and Such
I'm working on the next version of the message board, which will be quite a bit different. Luckily, I'm getting better with Perl and such, so all of the messages currently in this forum will move to the new system.
Here are my current plans... if you don't like them, let me know.
* There will be 6 different sub-forums... General Dink Discussion, File Discussion (each file will have it's own mini-forum), Development, News Comments (the comments system will be merged with the board), Off-Topic, and the Fire Pit (where all of the 'bad' posts go).
* There might not be different board styles (like Default, Modern, Banana, Rabbit, etc), just because the 'Modern' one I'm working on now just looks 'right'.
* There will be 3 different ways to view the index (list of messages): Flat, Threaded, or Column-Threaded.
* There will be 3 different ways to view messages: Flat (ordered by date now), Indented (like flat, but indented like a thread), and Single.
Everything else will be pretty much the same... except the overall design will be much, much better.

Don't like sub or mini cause they will tear the fellowship apart !!! It's just not ... Dink ???

There might also be an option to view all forums together, except the Fire Pit.

One question about the fire pit, will people be able to reply to posts there? I'm assuming you can't open a new topic in there anyway.

Actually, upon further consideration, I decided that there won't be a Fire Pit after all. Instead, there will be an option in Preferences whether or not you want to view 'Deleted' posts. The default will be no.
Its just easier that way, as I was having trouble trying to think what would happen if just one message in a thread was sent to the Fire Pit... Obviously, it wouldn't make any sense to move the entire thread, and it wouldn't make sense just to move one message there.

Nice way of avoiding the question there, heh. But I think I know your answer to it now anyway. Well, I got another question for you: Will there be an option in board prefrences to have certian boards grouped together on the board?
ex
lets say someone wants the General Dink Discussion, Development, News Comments and Off-Topic all grouped togeter on his or her main board page. They would go to board prefrences, and under "default main page" There would be each board's name, and beside them would be a checkbox. The user could check or uncheck them at will and whim.
I doubt if you'd be able to put this in right away thou, it would probably be a lot of work. Well, lets shoot for miasma 3.

It wouldn't be that much more work (I just spent an hour working on getting categories to work as they are now). So maybe another hour would do it.
I will keep it under consideration... but I don't think it would make the initial release, whatever century it might come out.

You can copy the entire thread to the fire-pit, and delete only the "bad" messages from the original location of the thread, eh? And then, users would have the option to NOT have any fire-pit at all, and just view ALL the messages like they were in the location where they were, if they change that in "Preferences". Well.. Something like that.

Too late Really... there isn't any way to make the Fire Pit work anymore.
