This chat is the 'TGID chat' (Thanks God It's Dink) simular to the chat meetings I used to hold 2 years ago in the old IRC chat. See you next Friday.

Oh, STFU. It wasn't windows fault, it was acctually a JRE update that screwed over a bunch of crap in the SCVHOST. Xp is better then Linux anyday, even for servers.

Tullisti. Please. You stand alone in all this Linux ranting, so you might as well cease it. It bothers me so.

If it's due to cider, you must be on the stuff constantly, because you're always going on and on about it.

: also, ranting is fun, and it's....me... if you don't like it, sorry....

I'm a friggin' power ranter. That's one of the reasons why I like the internet: ranting. I usually have people who agree with my opinions, though; you don't. Here, anyway.

But as far as I can tell, you are the only one on this very message board. So why don't you rave about the joys of Linux with your Linux friends and leave the rest of us alone?

Agreed with Tal. Linux has been around longer and therefore used in most servers, but the real reason is the it would be a serious pain, and take time and money to convert.

Whoa. No, you disagree with WC. I never claimed that one operating system was better than another, I simply protested Tullisti's annoying tendencies to chant "Linux is better!" around every corner.

No, this is where you come in to preach about Linux after I declared Tullisti a lone gunman. Cheater.

now who's ranting?? and while I'm at it, let me have a go:

Linux is one of those things that, untiull you have used it for at least 2-3 years, you really can't see the point. I have been using it for over 8 years now, and i would never switch back, but untill people DO use it for that amount of time, they can't see the point, which puts people like Chrispy and I at a disadvantage...

I won't go through a list of WHY linux is better, because i don't think it would achieve anything, and because it would take to long. BUT, i will point out, that my sertver has been going, without a reboot or serious system maintenence for 12471.648 hours!! that 74.236 weeks!! I also have a windows server, for testing purposes (to compare webserver speeds, and test programs), and I have not been able to keep it alive for more than 1 month, even when I'm not using it!!

how was THAT for a rant?? then again, i really do not expect people to look at this and be instantly converted, because as i said, you have to use it, and use it for a while, before you really get to understand....oops, I sound like an arrogant thorn!!

sorry

Go on, do it. I don't shove it everywhere ("That patch promised for FIAT isn't out...oh I'm gonna shoot myself!"), and at least I'll admit that it can be bothersome.

: also, very few windows users have used linux before... come to think of it.. have you??

In all honesty, no, and there's a certain reason why I don't plan on using it. I'll be more than happy to use it once this certain thing is improved upon, though. You can have a guess at it.

Uninformed? Bleh. I've gathered enough information to know that I don't plan on using it soon. Yes, there is one little reason I'm not going to use it, and you can go find out what reason it is yourself.

I have and so has several people I know. I had a friend who did nothing but set up linux servers. When XP came out, he dropped linux and started using pure XP servers. (Yes, he is linux certified, and also has a MSCV, he knows what he is talking about)

hmmm... interesting... I really think it depends on what you are trying to do with them. For website hosting, (for example) I would never use anything other than linux because:

1.- security issues with XP/2000 (yep, that IS a 130Mb "service pack")

2.- webserver speeds. take a look at the latest benchmarks, of apache2 (or even apache1.3) Vs. ISS. Also, there is free support for apache, I have yet to see any for ISS.

On the other hand, If i was selling workstations to a company, i would NOT sell linux, because people don;t know how to use it. THat have become dependant upon Micro$ofts version of modern day OS.

also, like i said, you do have to really use it for a while, and get the most out of it. I think the best way to learn is to buy Debian, and install everything for yourself, or complete a UML distro, without any external help.

but there ya go....

(anyway, if others can rant about banana's, why can't I rant about linux??)

The 130 meg service pack doesn't just update the security risks, it will update programs (such as MSN messanger) and other programs, device drivers (such as Detonator drivers), and it includes most of the main windows files (just incase some get messed up, or might be incompatible). You have a right to rant about Linux, but personally (and others agree with me) I don't wana hear it. I have used linux, and it's a good OS, but we don't wana hear about it every time we turn around.
