Crazy Old Ebil attempts to write walkthroughs for all the dmods (1998 done, many more to go)

I recently got back into Dink. Since it's been so long since I last played it, I figured I'd start with some old classics...

...but then I saw Crazy Old Tim Plays All the Dmods and I thought "Hey, this seems like a good idea to try out!"

...and then I saw the ol dmod walkthrough websites aren't up anymore except through archives or something?

So I figured, if I'm going to play through everything, I might as well try to write some sort of walkthroughs for them.

Anyway, I've been going through the COTPATDM Volume 1 pdf, and so far I'm done with 1998. I've uploaded my faq files on google drive here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1SM2MvUwWwVBQ4W_5gEACc53useswe2oZ?usp=sharingh

They're formatted like old gamefaqs guides, using under 80 character lines. I suppose this might be an issue if I were to host them somewhere else in the future, since I'd have to remove a lot of new line characters? Maybe it would have been a better idea to just have paragraphs and then automate the word wrapping to generate new files? Perhaps that's something to consider moving forward...

Gonna be advancing through 1999, but it'll probably take a while until I'm done with that too.

You may want to install your walkthrough efforts on
https://dink-translation.beuc.net/dinksols/en/d-mods.htm
or
http://solutions.ultraprison.net/wiki/Category:Walkthroughs .

That 2nd one does not seem to be online lately though.

Is Beuc's site not working for anyone else?

I was malingering in getting Dink Solutions working again due to the assumption that Beuc's site would be up forever. This is greatly unsettling.

Me neither. I remember beuc's site working a month ago, but I'm getting some DNS error now.

In lack of any other working website, I technically could post them on the forums as threads for each individual dmod.

The downside is a lot of forum spam. The advantage is that if anyone checks a DMOD, they can see the related threads and easily find it.

Edit: Oof, forgot I can edit posts and double posted. Oh well.

You feed the madness, and it feeds on you.
We need Dink Solutions back up, or a replacement website.

I was going to suggest that if/when I brought the site back up that we find out a way to rig up this site to collect the remaining walkthroughs. With the RTSoft forums gone, and there being so little interest in D-mods, it doesn't really make sense to have a separate site just for walkthroughs. The only real alternative to a file discussion post is a review, but that then taints the review system.

In the meantime, if anyone would like a particular walkthrough just ask and I can post it in this thread, assuming one exists.

This would be fine by me. It's not spam, it's a flood of quality content.

Although it would be ideal to have walkthroughs as an integrated part of the dmod page, ie. another tab besides Reviews / File Discussion / etc.

That would be a cool idea. I suppose we'd need to pester redink1 to see if it can be done.

Speaking of pestering people, I noticed the beuc.net website is still running, so apparently only the dink translations subdomain is down. I sent Beuc an email using the contact address on his website...

We are probably asking a lot of Mr. Redink here.

Is there some (relatively easy) way to get all the files from both of these sites and then set them up on a new page somewhere on the Dink network, such as this: https://www.dinknetwork.com/files/walkthroughs/?

(1) https://solutions.ultraprison.net/wiki/Category:Walkthroughs

(2) https://dink-translation.beuc.net/dinksols/en/d-mods.htm

Maybe the information on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Exporting_all_the_files_of_a_wiki could provide some helpful techniques for this effort?

In the meantime as an interim measure i've made it so that you can at least get to all of the old walkthroughs Beuc would have had by CTRL+F'ing here. I can't do anything more at the moment as the most recent SQL backup is on my NAS which has just had its non-standard power supply fail.

Hi,

I have converted the solutions to PDF and also still have the HTML files. I was going to register and upload them here but registration is not working.

So I uploaded them to my repository.
https://notabug.org/crts/dink_walkthroughs/releases

You can download the *.zip or *.tar.gz archive.
Or browse the repository and download only the file you want, if you have limited bandwidth.

Change is constant, but Constants do not change.
@crts

Thanks a lot for this. This is really helpful.

I've been stuck with such Dmods like Stone of Balance and Dinky Dimensions 2.

*Edit:
Also, I remember reading the walkthrough of Sour Gummy Worms. Twas a very good guide.

I've updated the way I store the FAQs, decided it's better to have each dmod in a separate file.

Also I'm about halfway through 1999 I think?... I just finished Goblin Trouble.

Link's still the same, but here it is again for convenience: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1SM2MvUwWwVBQ4W_5gEACc53useswe2oZ?usp=sharingh
