FreeDink being sold on eBay?
Found a listing on eBay from a company called mtsoftwaresolutions that appears to be FreeDink on a CD...I could not find RTSoft or Beuc credited anywhere on the page. The company seems to mostly be selling existing software (Paint, accounting services, etc) but on a CD. They also offer to send you the software digitally while you wait for the CD to arrive, so basically they're selling FreeDink. Seems like the kind of thing someone would want to be aware of?

LOL, thanks for sharing
They ripped my screenshots page too.
Technically you can sell FreeDink for any price, as long as you comply with the GNU GPL license, which mainly means shipping the source code along with the game.
Attribution is required but that's also something you ship with the game, not necessary on promotional pages.
We'd need a copy of the CD to see if they do comply, but I'm not gonna bother.
I'm more annoyed by the poor quality of the presentation.
Well, hopefully we'll reach out more future Dinkers thanks to their *cough* hard promotional work *cough*

wow talk about should be illegal
their items look crap
someone should buy one and claim buyer's protection to not only see if they did what beuc said, but also to not reward them for selling things they didnt make

Why bother ? at least someone will get to play dink one way or the other, they can discover the horror that it was free later

Are you telling me that I can download that stuff from here, post it on my website, and offer it for 1.000.000$ ?
I think I've discovered my profession.

You may have discovered your profession, but I doubt that you have discovered a market for your skills that will support your desired income level!

they even put their name on the screenshots and copyrighted them LOL
#ebay needs to be more careful about this sort of seller

@toof you can read gnu.org/philosophy/selling.html for a full explanation
But as SlipDink pointed out you'd have to compete with this very website (and others) that offers it for free

@Beuc
That was an interesting read. It would be a fun experiment to open up a website, and try selling the game. I might just do that
Not to mention that I can even offer each dmod for 0.99$, or the the 5 dmod package for only 3.99$. Additional content with reviews (COTPAD)? Only 4.99$.
I could also lie that the money is outsourced to some humanitarian something...

Tbh if someone is buying Dink without looking it up and realizing it's free as heck, they've got a scam coming to them.
DMODs aren't necessarily released under GNU though. The author of the DMOD could technically still sue you if the DMOD wasn't licensed to you like that.
@metatarasal
Assuming anyone would actually bother, good luck with the law establishments of my country. I'm starting with meta-mod package. 4 good dmods + free of charge tutorial on how to make your own adventures, if you order now.

Right? If it's not technically illegal then fair enough I suppose, but they could have at least spent ten more minutes designing the product page. Would have brought the total design time up to 11 minutes

hold up.
you said that freedink can be sold if the proper credits are given or whatever. so, that should mean freedink can be tossed on steam or even gog with no issue? someone's gotta get on that. screw waiting for seth
