So to make this place a little more than half-dead I guessed I would open a discussion. In this topic you can tell us about games you consider your favourites or just games that were important for you in some way. Let's start with the obvious one: Dink Smallwood. Why do I like this game? It doesn't have good graphics, good story, replay value, even the soundtrack is not even special. The humor is there, but 6-8 year old me hardly understood it. I think the reason I like it is the simple, but fun gameplay and for some reason good athmosphere. I think Dink would have been a one-play wonder without the ability to play D-Mods. It's so amazing people can create new environments, weapons, magic, brand new mechanics, interesting stories... But this is my story. Why do you like Dink?Another old favourite of mine is Jazz Jackrabbit 2. It's also a childhood memory like Dink. I remember playing the extra levels in TSF, the standalone expansion. It would have been a good game you only play once or twice without the community. But new SP levels and tilesets are made to this very day. It's strange that a trend for these games really depend on what tools the developers give us to create user content. It seems those games what people can mod easely are the ones that stand the test of time.
Another favourite of mine is Battle for Wesnoth. It's the game where I learned to play turn-based strategy games. It was free, it had user content so I liked it.
Other games that I find important to me include Half-Life - the original and 2 - I learned here that not only I can play first-person shooters but actually enjoy them. There was also Amnesia - an obscure RPG Maker game that I'm not sure if it's avaliable in English - It made JRPGs my favourite genere. And the AGS games (for ex. the King's Quest remake) where I learned to like point-and-click adventure games. I now see another pattern. The games I played in my childhood define what type of games I like.
So what are your favourite games and games that are just important for you?
I think I can guess three of yours Bluedy: Mortal Kombat, Gothic, Left 4 Dead. And Skurn please tell us a game that doesn't involve ponies too.

Bluedy: Mortal Kombat, Gothic, Left 4 Dead

You slick sonofabitch! You're mostly correct. While I REALLY like Mortal Kombat, I dont consider it a favourite. So let's start with a game that could take it's place. And that is Morrowind. My first TES game was Oblivion and it was the game that made me fall in love with the TES series. I still have the save from my very FIRST playthrough! But Morrowind was harder to get into. While I loved it's theme, the soundtrack, graphics, etc. It's just a really hard game to get into. It's stands as the first and only game so far which I actually struggled to get into and sucessfully did after numerous attempts at getting angry/ bored of it. But after that, it stands as my FAVOURITE GAME OF ALL TIME. It's simply a game that was with me when I was most depressed.
Another game is Gothic, yes. As with Morrowind, I love the atmosphere which is..well.. gothic. Really good soundtrack aswell by charismatic Kai Rosenkranz. That's the thing with these games, I played them on my low end laptop because I couldn't play any of the new games, but that didnt bother me because the style/atmosphere is what made me fall in love with them the most. I now have a high end PC capable of playing GTA 5 on max settings and these games are still the ones I play the most. Gothic, like Morrowind, has a solid atmosphere with solid soundtrack and solid gameplay!
Last but not least is Left 4 Dead which is mostly a game from my childhood (Can you believe it's been almost 10 years since it released?!). Well, Left 4 Dead 2. While I was half terrified every time I played the game because the atmosphere is SO WELL DONE, and the zombies were so SCARY, I kept playing it! I was terrified whenever a Tank would approach and everytime I'd see a witch crying in the distance. It's just a good game, so good that even if it scared 10 year old me, it kept me hooked!
Some honorable mentions are: Risen, which I actually played wayy before Gothic and wasted several hours in back even before the left 4 dead days. It's actually one of the most important games that helped me learn english! Heroes 3 is my favourite strategy game and probably will be my favourite strategy game because of the good visuals and soundtrack and unique gameplay. Yu-Gi-Oh Power of Chaos because I love Yu Gi Oh and it's my favourite card game...aaand...
well, one last game that I also spent countless hours on as a child: Dink Smallwood! The graphics are unique and the sound design too, which give the game a kind of, late 90's, eerie (but not in a scary way) vibe which really attracted me. And yes, the soundtrack is mostly classical songs turned into midi, but that didn't stop me from listening to it on youtube while I was doing my homework in primary school.

Okay, okay!

But when I tell you what kind of computer games I liked most and have played over the years, you will need to prepare to be seriously disappointed.

So, here they are in order of preference.

#1 Dink Smallwood & assorted dmods
#2 Myst
#3 Legend of Zelda
#4 Battle for Wesnoth

I tend to enjoy a story as part of a game more than actual game play, though tactical and logical challenges can add to my enjoyment too.

King of Dragon Pass, a game of adjusting sliders, reading things and making decisions, easily one of my favorite games, kinda like a choose-your-own-adventure book with more clan managing and god pleasing, also you can lose the game immediately by sacrificing all your cows to the trickster god at once. Praise Eurmal.

Age of Wonders is also good, so is Dungeon Keeper, those probably make up my top 3 (in no specific order).

EDIT: I forgot about Tux Racer.

If you took out legend of Zelda I can completely agree with you.
Instead of this Zelda-rpg I'd put Fish Fillets 1 and 2, because those are the best puzzle games ever.
Oh and I play chips challenge very much at the moment, but I don't know where to put this.

Hey, come to think of it I've spent many hours playing Fish Fillets too! It is certainly a delight.

Another puzzle game I've enjoyed that you might like too is berusky.

Then there is the somewhat unique strategy game I've enjoyed is Cultivation.

The is yet another strategy game called "Globulation 2" that was a favorite of mine for years, that I still play once in a while.

Any advices? My distro has it in the repository...

Regarding fish fillets: I have no trouble running it on 64 bit Ubuntu 16.04. I didn't do anything special to get it working.

According to "apt-cache depends" and "dpkg -l" these are the packages and their versions that my system says fillets-ng and fillets-ng-data depend on. Maybe some of them on your system are not at the same version level?

Well I wasn't exactly specific... It says it can't find executable actually, although I gave permissions for that for every file I could find. I've just installed Antergos (I thought that you have that too), and I'll give it another chance on it now. When I asked the question, I was trying it on Suse based distro called Gecko.

I do not have the Antergos Distro (based on Arch Linux, right?(*)) installed anywhere is and I'm not sure why you think I might have had it installed. But that's okay. No harm done!

Great! What needed to be changed? How did you fix it?

(*)What version of Linux is Arch based on? Or has it been developed from scratch?

Someone here mentioned it... I thought it was you.

How did you fix it?
It was indeed a problem with missing shared libraries. After I've entered in dependency loop trying to install them, I just gave up, and installed Antergos, which has them already.

On what version of linux is Arch based on
Developed from scratch...?

I don't generally like debian based distros. I use openSuse mostly (well, openSuse spin called Gecko, slightly lighter and prettier), because it has Yast, so I don't have to do every damn thing through terminal.
Arch is cool, ( documentation and actually nice noob friendly community ), but installing it is a pain in the @$$. I did it once, and I don't wanna spend so much time configuring everything, hence Antergos. Cool learning process though.

Edit:

Antergos user was GOKUSSJ6!!

A few other rpgs I found recently I really enjoy are:

#1: Evoland 2 (yeah, I like that meta-humorous-stuff, story is really good for a game you try to put as many game elements as possible and it always fits the theme)

#2: Exiled Kingdoms (Even though graphics isnt that good (but hey, Dinks isn't too) I was happy to find another hack and slash with an intriguing story (even if it could be way better) and really fun dungeons and much more hours play-time than dink)
