speedrun

So I attempted the any% no-glitch speedrun (on latest version) a few times lately.
Kinda wondered if anyone attempted and if so what times they could reach if you finished any runs.

My best time so far I managed was a around a 1:05h on safe file time with around 6-8 reloads coming it at 1:12h-1:15h total for my quickest run. (sub 1 is definitely possible tho in a good run )

Mainly still in practicing before I run with a timer (the longest part of the run surely is getting bow lore/bow money damned RNG!) and figuring out a solid way of beating Seth fast without dying. I find defense only to work with a regular bow ending up around Seth at lvl 8 with decent resists. (of course if you get lucky with drops buy a massive bow instead haha)

He can still do massive amounts when he gets in second cycle+ and can already have you killed before his last one if your unlucky. Skipping the mayor golems items is needed for that so you miss all those potions elixirs can help alooooot if you already bought a nice stack if you do this. Its mainly the having to get power shots and needing those to connect 100% that I have a bit trouble with on the last fight. (regular hits do no damage on my route ha!)

Any advice is helpful too of course. (like buying bombs for the goblin boss fight can work quicken it up a little if your good at timing the spot it runs trough it or get stuck for a bit on a corner )

Hope you all had a great holiday.

Maybe the staff can hold some sort of speedrun contest or competition, the best player can have ultimate bragging rights and the ability to be yelled at for abusing them.

I would expect Magic only to be better than Defense only, as the magic level also increases resist?

Is bowlore really the best way to beat Seth? I haven't tried speedrunning the game nor doing any sort of minimum stats run, so I don't honestly know, using bows for anything just sounds like a horrible mistakee. =) I'd just skip the bowlore altogether and buy the Light Sword at the End of the World; it should able to do decent damage against Seth, as it gives 25 attack which neatly negates his 25 defence.

Yeah milimeter It might be better to go full magic i'll try that a few runs athank ayou.
Skipping bow lore has crossed my mind too I will try setting up a different route with a sword its just the goblin king is kind of annoying without bowlore imo but practice will help that probably hehe.

Thanks for the advice ;3

I have a feeling that the in-game time counting used to calculate the save file time might be inaccurate as well. If you were going to time yourself properly you would be better off using a proper stopwatch.

Is that because the engine merely sets a marker of when it activated the DMOD and updates it at each save?

IIRC, it does relate to time_of_day() and not an arbitrary counter, which could race or stutter depending on the length of the parsing queue.

had a timer (finally) setup on a 2 runs today. one I forgot a step in the route HA. And one got close to 52-54 minutes finishing but I messed up the Seth fight. Q_Q I did not get herb boots until after the DDC fight even on that run. (bad rng )

I probably wont ever beat the segmented record on a single segment run without the glitch you can do in the original. I hope with enough practice and good rng I can get sub 45 at least...(hope!)

Oh well that's better than what I assumed. Still, the resolution of get_time() isn't superb and will probably round up or down so I wouldn't trust it completely.

See: http://en.cppreference.com/w/c/chrono/time_t

Perhaps, if we have coded our DMods inefficiently of unknowingly taken advantage of some bug, "just because our code worked", it could introduce a delay between the call to time_t and when it gets posted to the savegame?

Who's knocking on heaven's door?
There is a segmented speedrun here in 49:22. I am not sure if there is a faster one.

Edit: Oh, didn't see meta's post.

Screw speedrunning it. Try beating the game backwards.

Got my first timed run done. :3
If anyone is interested. Or to point out tips haha.
messed up the seth try on my first time and beat him second.
49:07 was my finish time on it.
I pressed the timer a tad late at the end hehe . but got a PB to strive to beat and the route to perfection.

I tried to beat Synbi's time without using glitches, a few years ago. I came to the conclusion it's probably possible if everything goes absolutely your way. If you keep getting bad luck with monsters and what they drop, it can effect your run a lot. Glitchless, the best I managed was about 40 mins. Never used the bow-lore. The best way to defeat Seth is just by punching and using elixirs (well, best if you want to beat the game fast).

yeah punching can def be faster for sure but the problem with that to make it viable you need to go strenght only pretty much. and yeah elixer spam (which I dislike for you then have to buy a full inv of elixers meeeh ) so the sword at the edge is prolly the easiest to get and use in the route for no glitches. still he can kill you so easy even with def only haha.

beating that time in 1 sitting without glitches will be hard to do indeed I doubt its possible. but hey if you look at speeddemosarchive its not the WR after all XD but who can be asked to submit anyways with all those annoying steps haha (cause if you go from their index I already beat "wr time" by like 15 secs)

pff and what a crapsy few months it been. but I am still lurksings around ;3

whaha thanks Dinkulum we had fun talking with you too He came in after I had just beat my PB dink time by like almost 6 minutes (great rng on getting the herb boots plus a first try seth fight still lots of minor improvements to be had too in minor mistakes in routing and such.)

down side is I had my mic too far from my big mouth XD so the mic volume on the stream/there for the highlight turned out pretty unbearable. :[ ahh well will get that right on my next PB

Sorry if I'm a bit late on this, but do people speedrun D-Mods? Some dmods I liked even more than the original game so I'm interested to see more Dink speedruns other than the original.

Also, will there be a leaderboard of this game in speedrun.com?

Haha, I guess I would suggest...CA? CC2 seems non-linear enough. (I swear I've played dmods other than those two. But I only remember those now.)

Never be afraid to ask, but don't demand an answer
A non-linear game is actually more interesting for speedrunning, I think; the challenge is not just to do everything right, but also to figure out what is the fastest route to beat the game.
