Dink beats some other RPG's out there, yes?
I recently found and downloaded some other RPGs (Polymorphable, Valyria Tear, Allacrost, and Flare which I haven't looked at yet).
And I came to the conclusion that in terms of game play, they just don't compare with Dink. Even the poor DMODs are better I think.
The graphics of these other games, especially the backgrounds in some, are quite good; beautiful in fact.
Wondering if anyone can suggest a good alternative to Dink that is equal to or better.

Any Elder Scrolls game. Oblivion and Skyrim in particular were awesome. Diablo is a pretty good series too. Though, none of these games are free.
I bet the problem is Dink is unknown.
I just got oblivion for like five dollars. And while that's not free- it's like yard-sale cheap. Which to me means it's pretty much free.
Where did you get it, also may I borrow five bucks
Some of the best RPGs in the world come from the same era as Dink - Fallout 1 and Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 come first to mind... If you haven't, you must play those games.
When it comes to freeware games, I don't know... A huge amount of those seem to be using the JRPG style, like those games you mentioned. Everyone has humongous heads, and combat consists of picking actions from a list.

Did this inspire the poll or vice-versa
Good question Dack. I just now noticed the poll.
lol..what else could RPG stand for?
and thanks for the tip scratcher; I'll go see if I can find them.

I like JRPGs. I'll admit a lot of them suck lately, though. Final Fantasy, for example, hasn't had a good installment since 2000.
Rocket Propelled Grenade would be the other common interpretation, but it can mean lots of things.
Retail Planning Guidelines for instance, who doesn't like those?

Final Fantasy 9 was definitely amazing (released in 2000), I would even argue it's the best Final Fantasy. But I think Final Fantasy 10 deserves some credit, it was different and certainly more linear than most RPGs, but it managed to do it right (at least in my opinion). The story and characters kept me hooked, and battles were turn-based but very well made for turn-based. I think Final Fantasy 13 was good, but kind of like a less well made version of FF 10. For me FF 12 was one of those games that seemed like it was trying extremely hard to be good, but tripped on a banana peel and fell flat on it's face along the way. So many good ideas but a game that isn't engaging in the long run. As for FF 11 and 14, I shall not speak of those.

I just got ff13 and I'm not really a fan of how linear it is. There are a few other things that irk me about it, but for the most part it's enjoyable. The graphics are insanely good- especially during cutscenes. I just kinda wish they did the first ten chapters a bit more like they did the lower world. It's the first ff game I've played since the one I had for super nintendo so the way they did the turn based system was pretty interesting. I played the demo for 13-2 and liked that version a bit more. Except for the part on bosses where you have to push the right button when it tells you to- that was a pitiful addition.
