Have any of the demos at all been completed at all or are the creators to lazy to work on them?

Please Cindy, say the whole name each time.
I think that's a harsh way to put it. People lose motivation. It happens.

A fair number of the full DMODs that have been released had demo releases at some point, so the answer to your question is "yes."

If it is something I've learned from lurking on these forums for all these years is that a demo release usually means a full release won't come anything soon.

Well, it was different back in the old days. There was a time when most demos were finished at some point.

So people just got lazy and threw a demo up and then just went with it being done?

No, usually when people release something and call it a "demo" they genuinely intend to finish it later, they just don't always get around to it.

I object
Pretty much all of the demos around right now will never be finished. The ones that were finished have been removed from the site, so the idea that demos never get finished propagates over time.

Also, I think that in early years demos were finished way more often than in later years. I don't know of any demo that was actually finished in the last five years or so. I could be wrong though.

Actually, scanning the archives, I think that the last time a demo was replaced by a complete DMOD was in friggin' 2007. Wow.

I guess it's safe to say at this point that if a demo comes out, that's all you're getting.

Hmm, I'm thinking about releasing a demo of my new DMOD, what do you guys think?

Nah, I don't really like the idea of demos in 90% of cases. Nothing wrong with beta testing, but demos tend to be a bad idea.

I don't think demos are always a bad idea. I haven't decided whether or not I want to release a demo. I think if I were to release a demo, It'd be a small completable dungeon that highlights certain combat elements I've made. That way it doesn't spoil anything from the actual game, and as long as I make sure not to include more than 25% of the elements I should still have motivation to finish the real thing. Most demos I've played seem to just be ripped from the actual game, and I don't really like that.

Hmm..
I think an open demo is a bad idea... It'll just stop people from playing the real thing.
Just send out parts of it to selected testers!

Never be afraid to ask, but don't demand an answer

If I would release a demo, that's exactly what I'd do. I wouldn't release a demo before the dmod is finished. The demo would serve to get people interested in the story and/or new things I'm doing. And it would contain the date when the full game is released. Since it's already finished, it will indeed be released on that day. It may have been changed a bit based on demo feedback, though.
