Maybe I'm missing something but I can't get this to work at all in Windows 7 64bit. When I create a new DMOD, I get the Map Editor has stopped working error message and it closes. Opening one does the same.
This works on 7 but the selection of sprites doesn't seem to
- sprites can be selected by holding down Shift and drawing a box that intersects them;
- sprites can be selected by holding down Shift+Control and drawing a box that contains them;
Nope... nothing
Never noticed you can scroll thru the sprites instead of page down - neat!

"I can't get this to work at all in Windows 7 64bit"
The hard drive of my main PC failed, so I've been using Win7 32-bit to develop 2.2 and had nowhere to test it on 64-bit . Although it may or may not be a 64-bit specific bug, I'm sorry for it and I'm going to try to pinpoint it once my main computer works again.

Have you entered Multi-Sprite mode by pressing Y before doing that? I separated simple selection from multi selection mode because I wanted simple select to be usable even if I break something in multi-select (plus, I was lazy ).

You mean in the selector? Yeah, that was added in 2.1! ("Sprite and hardness selectors can be scrolled using the mouse" - Version 2.1 Release Notes)
Oh, and one thing I wanted to add is moving the mouse to the sprites when picking them up (multi-mode), instead of moving the sprites to the mouse, so that you can easily move many of them by small and precise amounts; I forgot to do so, though. Perhaps in 2.3 if there'll ever be such thing.

Cool thanks, can you tell me how to use it as I seem to be not doing it right... I select now (thanks) and if I decide I want to do nothing with the selected sprites, I can't de-select them. To get out of sprite selection mode I have to choose another mode and then later if I go back into sprite selection again, the ones I selected and decided not to change are still highlighted... and whatever I do to the the rest is done to them too - is there any way apart from clicking on them individually, to deselect please?

@MsDink:
The on-screen help (the text at the bottom-left of the window) gives you most of what you need to know.
You select sprites by clicking them one by one, by Shift-dragging a box that touches them, or by Ctrl-Shift-dragging a box that contains them completely. You deselect everything by pressing C (as in [C]lear Selection). As of version 2.2 you can't deselect using a mouse-dragged rectangle. I might add something like that in the future. You pick up sprites by pressing P. You can put those down by clicking or pressing Enter. You can't stamp the sprites in multi-mode. If you specifically want to create a copy of the selected sprites, you can pick up a copy of them by pressing Shift-P. You delete sprites by selecting them and pressing Delete. You can't delete picked sprites. You can change some properties of the selected sprites by right-clicking (in 2.2, the Properties window doesn't exist in multi-mode). If the right-click menu shows a tick before "Hard", then all selected sprites are hard. If it shows a dot, then some of the selected sprites are hard, others are not. If it doesn't show any symbol, then none of those sprites are hard. Same thing for Nohit, Background, Foreground and Invisible (with the note that the last three are mutually exclusive for each sprite).
Oh my, that's an awfully long explanation!
@Bill:
I managed to find something that resembles your error. Do you have a "dink" folder in your installation dir? The editor uses Dink_Install_Dir\dink\Tiles\S06.bmp (and S07, S12, S13) for displaying the little cells of the minimap (the purple and red boxes etc.).

Mine turns purple and sometimes pixelates into nothing. Is that bug fixed?
Thanks RW will try that (I have that annoying wall of text turned off hehe should have read it first I guess )
@duck - that is fixed with an update of your graphics drivers - search the net for what you have and get the latest driver

I did. It didn't work. Never had that problem on XP, though.
Yeah I had it too, but the driver update fixed it sorry got nothing else.
I can confirm it works just great on Win7 64-bit.
Hey Bill how did you get the map in Quest for Dorinthia to be so big?
I wish I had the answer for you. It's been 12 years since I made that DMOD.
Tried it at my house and it works beautifully. Not sure what the deal with my work PC is. Probably shouldn't be trying it there anyway.

I log in to TDN.
I see Bill.
I crap my pants.

Love all the new stuff. So far the only suggestion I have is to add a "Copy Sprite Attributes to Clipboard" button in the sprite properties menu. It would copy the attributes used in creating a sprite and would be pasted as: (x, y, brain, sequence, frame). Just a thought. Great work!
