I still don't understand the rank system though, 1st place, 3rd, 6th, 10th. Surely it's equal 1st place, equal 2nd, 3rd, 4th. Oh well

I'd release something for 2010's RRR but I'm gonna try to be the equivalent of Tal (no work yet I'll be a celebrity.)

You can't be 2nd place with two people placed before you, that would be strange.

Strange that you can be in third place with no one in second place.

That's the point in having insufficient statistics to distinguish between first and second place. You'll need a tiebreaker if you really want a distinction between first and second place.

But it would be doubly awkward if you went from third to second place because the second placed file gets an extra vote.

i was going to take this topic and make an extremly funny remark that would blow everyone away and get on the random qoutes. but i cant seem to get the gerbil in my head to start running again! the stupid things been like that since 1994!

You're screwed if it's been that long, the gerbil is probably obese if not dead by now.

This is exactly, why I said this was innaccurate due to lack of voters.

Look, the two files with the most votes qualify for the Download of the Year awards. If we would have a tie for 1st place and then one file for 2nd place, it would really complicate things. Is the 2nd place the 2nd best file released? In this case, no, because the 1st place has two entries.

See how that would be confusing?

Actually, ranking anything below 1st place is kind of stupid since the statistics are so bad. Ranking files shared 3th doesn't mean anything with the amount of votes we get.

Statistics? This is the freakin' Dink Network. We don't have a huge community, so 20 votes will have to do.

And yes, we do need rankings below 1st place, because the two highest ranked files qualify for the DOTY awards.

Did anyone have a problem with the DOTM voting? 'Cause I can't recall any complaining back then...

Meh, better to rank all the files that are in the competition, rather than leave some out.

For all the lack of voters and inaccuracy of this voting system, it's been pretty dang accurate so far. There hasn't been a single result that would seem out of place or undeserving of winning or becoming second.

Well the non-dmod award can be discussed, but the right dmods won all of the RRRs so far.
