You feed the madness, and it feeds on you.
I've only played through this Dmod once, but I did enjoy it. So I thought why not write a review?

Foreword
This is quite an old Dmod, and it's not very 'serious'... it's meant more for comedy I think, and it did comes across well. I liked most of it, but some parts did bore me a little.

Story
This game doesn't have a real compelling storyline to begin with - The story is to find some cheese because the king wants some. After it kicks off though, there are plenty of little stories amongst it that are quite challenging and just all-out fun. I did find some parts a little cheesy(Hehe, how appropriate), and some parts were a little bland, but it kept me entertained for the most part, so that's the main thing I guess.

Graphics
There weren't really any 'new' graphics, but the graphics were used well, and there were a variety of enemies. Some enemies were quite funny as well, like Harry the Accountant. The mapping was ok, but could have been better in some places, although I think some places were made quite plain on purpose to add to the mood of the Dmod or the paricular scene that was mapped.

Game sounds and music
The music was used well, but the theme used for the main area(the grasslands), was quite repetitive and started to annoy me after a while because it wasn't very interesting. One of my favourite aspects in a Dmod is the sounds and music, and the music in this Dmod didn't impress me as much as I would have liked. I can tell when I really like the music and that I know it fits the scenes in a Dmod, because if this is so, I will often find myself humming it a lot. The sounds were well-used though.

Overall
The Quest for Cheese is a good Dmod, which achieved the mood it was going for, but could have been mapped better in some places. There are also a few bugs which could have been fixed(mostly hardness and mapping errors), but I did enjoy it and I would recommend it if you are looking for a funny Dmod to keep you entertained for a while.

Storyline: The author states that this D-mod doesn’t have a complex or compelling storyline but that he instead focused on good gameplay. This D-mod shows that you in fact don’t need a complex storyline to make a good D-mod. All you need is one basic quest and work out that one really good.

Map: Not fancy, but all that is needed, is there.

Graphics: No new ones, except for the title-screen. But the graphics are used in a very unexpected, almost hilarous new way. Very good!

Music: Fits the situation. One thing I particularly liked was the use of music, just like it is done in movies. At some dramatic point the music drops dead… and then, when Dink agrees to accept a new quest, the music starts again. Really good.

Bugs: I didn’t encounter any, not even the one the author describes.

Good: The humour is very, very good. It’s never overdone or too obvious. Even in the readme file there are some funny bits and pieces. The author doesn’t take himself or his game too serious so it seems – and I think that is a good thing. There are many subquests and many secrets to discover. The enemies are really good. The game is fun to play. The graphics are used in a new way. You find suprises on almost every screen.

Not so good: Perhaps that a few tiles don’t blend. It’s the only thing I can come up with…

Overall: An entertaining, funny, suprising and very good D-mod.

Fit for: Everybody. I would say this one is a must-play D-mod.

This dmod is one of the most well-accepted early dmods. This dmod truely follows the path of many successful classical PC/console games -- pure fun. It might not have very twisted dramatic plots (like POTA), nor did it have eye-poping outstanding new graphics (like SOB). It just try to be a fun game. And overall, it works perfectly.

This dmod proves again that you don't need to have size or fancy stuffs to be a great dmod. As you can see from the title of this dmod, the main quest is silly. Yes, silly: King is having his meal but cannot find any cheese so the great King ask our hero Dink to find him some cheese.

The game was well-balanced, not too easy, not too difficult. You can do many small things -- killing LOTS of pillbugs, finding every secret, talking to a lot of "things" (furnitures etc.), and attacking almost anything...

"Have FUN" is what the author wanted the players to do! Good humors can be found in various places and mini-quests. Although some of the secrets are not straightforward or even clueless, but if you can find every secret, you will be rewarded with a pretty funny ending. Even the plain ending without having all secrets is funny, too.

A few small bugs though, nothing is really fatal. Because many of the secrets can only be accessed through some secret pathways, you might need to try to walk through almost every unconventional way. And because, at some point, you have the ability to walk toward water, you might get to places that shouldn't be reached due to some hardness glitches. And sometimes you can't get to the real ending even though you did get all the secrets (the number of the pixels was reset somehow). Some of the tasks were repeating and had the similar appeal with others.

I don't quite like the midi, but most of them were good fit for the scene of the game. Can't blame the author, just my taste.

But, all in all, this is one of the best dmods that's ever released. No matter how many dmods you have played, if you did not try this one out yet, download it, and you won't be disappointed. If not for some of those bugs and some repetition in the game, I might give it even higher score.

This D-mod is the funniest D-mod ever (I think so).
The king wants Dink to bring him some cheese (very weird storyline.)

===== SOUND =====

It's nothing wrong here. 9 out of 10

===== GRAPHICS =====

The new graphics in this D-mod is the title screen.
All other graphics is from the original Dink Smallwood game.
7.5 out of 10

===== GAMEPLAY =====

This D-mod will last for years. IT'S SO FUN!
You can do lots of things like defeat bosses and so on.
If you like collect things
you can collect Pixie Poops to get a big bonus.
9.7 out of 10

===== LAST APPEAL =====

Good:

This D-mod is a very great D-mod.
You can sit and playing it for hours.
The humour is the biggest part of the D-mod and... that's great.

Bad:

The game was pretty hard to beat. The bosses where all too tough.
The Pixie Poops where hard to find sometimes.

===== TOTAL =====

THIS IS A GREAT D-MOD!

Quest for cheese is a pretty simple name for a game.
But,this dmod prefers to focus on game play rather than
a complex story, and well, it succeeds.
The story too is nice and you have a lot of
interesting and funny sub plots and sub quests
The typical dink humour is there. The music is pleasant.
The NPCs are fun to talk to.You will definitely enjoy
accomplishing your regular dink tasks, they are quite interesting here.
Exploring is pretty enjoyable in this game, you are bound to
see things here and there.
You have action, but it's cool , no serious screen locks
with a lot of deadly monsters.
There is also a funny new weapon in the last stage
I had seen a similar one in mystery Island, but this is different from that.

There are 4 areas ,all are beautifully done

Bugs: Almost zero,no screen freezes
Just one freeze, close to the river bank, you are not likely to venture there

Overall: A dmod with a light hearted theme, that everyone is going to enjoy playing

Oh boy, this is a very funny D-Mod with lots of secrets and suprises. Ah well, evaluation:
Graphics: 9.0= Hmm, i noticed some tiles do not match and don't look that good. Maybe that's the only flaw.
Sound: 9.0=Well, like the same as the original dink but the music excels here. Still good although
Gameplay: 9.75=Well this is the best part of this D-Mod. It's real funny with monsters talking and all, very interactive with a lot of talking involved (not the sound) and some quests are simple but rewarding. Overall no flaws in the gameplay.
Humor: 9.75= Incredible. Incredibly funny! Pillbugs with humor, boncas which think that dink is no match for them, punching stuff, well everything in the humor section is great.
Lifespan (Appeal): 9.5= Man, this D-mod makes you want to repeat this quest. WooHoo!

Overall: 9.5= It just shows you that fun is a big point in games, not always how it looks.

Possibly better than watching badgerbadgerbadger.com until your head explodes. As Jamie said, this games got one heckuva lotta pointless secrets. There's even a trick with the experience machine where it doesnt take any of your money... All in all this game has plenty of glorious stupidity to make you laugh for hours.

A bit of humour, I particularly like the save points, they're alright.
The defense bit is good

Bad

Not much of a plot, just to find cheese, a few hardness errors, that one near the castle is annoying. I can't find Alktree nuts because there are no Alktrees.

Good game but a bit hard.

For a comedy D-MOD this takes first place. Everything is scripted with hilarious text and the quest itself makes you realize the of course that this should be that way. Everyone should play the Quest for Cheese and try to get all the pixie poops as a special bonus.

This is the best DMOD I've EVER played! I found the story pretty good, I LOVED the giant pigs particularly.

There is one new spell which is...odd to say the least.
GOOD: The midis were AWESOME specially the one in the Bar and Grill.
The humour was good, if a bit blunt, and i like the option when talking to people of "act like a retard".
I LOVED the way you could talk to/hit practically anything, made the gameplay a lot more interesting

BAD: I could only find two bad points:
1. Some of the spelling-it doesn't sound much which shows how little was wrong haha-particularly the spelling "Maybey".
2.The midi with the banjo, I'm not sure if it was intentional but occaisionally something would happen and it would become VERY dissonant-I can't STAND dissonance-being a musician.

All in all an EXCELLENT DMOD, I recommend it to anybody. (remember you CAN kill the faries and get money)

Absolutely brilliant game ! Shame the author only published this one game.

I sat chuckling behind my computer for most of the time. The humour abounds and is seemingly boundless. Nearly everything is scipted (even whatever you are killing) which to me is always a plus.

Lots of little subquest, some get slightly repetitive, but never boring.

Finding everything is at times quite a challenge, but you can definitely manage it (even without the walkthrough).

The duck magic is brilliant. And killing the final bosses makes a nice change as normally you don't get to kill these creatures.

I adore this game.... More ! More ! We want more !

Yep, about the funniest DMOD made.

Story is not much, but doesn't have to be.

So much fun stuff done in scripting and mapping - Love those save machines!

This is a must play. If it had new graphics I'd be giving it 9.5

This DMOD is by far the funniest DMOD ever created, no question about it. The storyline is simple; King Goodheart and Dink are having a meal together, when he realizes he's out of cheese. So, he sends Dink to find him some cheese. The music is near suberb, and the scripts are quality! I encountered no hardness bugs . The game has no new graphics except for the title screen. The best feature of this DMOD though... IT'S HILARIOUS! I've never in my life laughed so hard at the moniter! If you're tired of "serious" epics like LOT, I recomend you download this right now.

A very funny DMOD. Very, very funny. This is one quest you have to play.

Graphics: Not much new, but nice twists and turns on the standard ones. Loved the psycho save machine. 9 out of 9.5.

Sounds: Nothing distracting here. Well suited. 8.5 out of 9.5.

Mapping: Clever and solid. Couldn't find any bugs. A few edges ending abruptly. 9 out of 9.5

Gameplay: Very funny. A little tedious with killing all the pillbugs, but have a beer and you're right in there! Score 9.5 out of 9.5

Specials: The humour. You can't beat it. 9.5 out of 9.5

This dmod was pretty good, for the most part. It could have actually done without the "real" game, and just gone with the pixy poop idea. But the real quest was pretty good too. So it's like 2 mods in 1, and that's keen. One thing I really liked was the exploding projectile ducks. That was cool. Not to mention the "good ending" which was... well, good. overall, it's definitely worth the download and worth playing several times and stuff. Enjoy.

This is a very good mod, what am I saying? Very? It's near perfect! Yeah, no kidding.
GRAPHICS 7: The weakest point of the game. No new ones, and the standard graphics are used just averagely.
SOUND 8: Very good midis, They suit the game nicely. (funny).
GAMEPLAY 9.5: Yeah, you see it well, an 9.5. This game is SO much fun! You'll have to do all sort of stuff, and search for a LOT of secrets. There's even an secret ending! VERY COOL.
LASTING APPEAL 8.5: It's of average size, but there are so much things to collect, it'll keep you busy for quite a while.

Utterly fantastic, and one of the best D-Mods ever released. It never takes itself too seriously, it's humour is never forced, and it never becomes dull. Also, watching someone else attempt to take on the final boss is absolutely hysterical! The midi files are also ridiculously good (Death's challenge, in particular). A must-have.

This is undoubtably the best d-mod i have ever played, and there are quite a few of those. The sound is brilliant, and the use of midis is excellent. As the author says, it doesn't have much of a story, but the attention to detail more than makes up for it. Unfortunately, there aren't any new graphics, but the default graphics are used very well.

My final comment is that it's a real shame that this is the author's only published d-mod. He was probably too exhausted from all the scripting to do another one!
