The Dink Network

Recondite Nine: Reincarnation
Posted by redink1 on Sunday May 12th, at 07:25 PM
Welcome to the return of Recondite... which was supposed to be a weekly article on whatever I felt like writing about. I was at a loss of what to write of, and with the loss of broadband, I'm not on the internet enough to find lots of cool links anymore. So what does this Recondite offer? View the comments to find out.

Currently, I need to get the previous polls page up, make the message board accept username/passwords, make passwords optional for comment posting, and so on.

Story Time: King Snyder

While I was thinking of things to put in Recondite, I realized that most of you have come into the community long after I had. And some of you might find it interesting to read what I remember the Dink community as a long, long time ago...

Back when The Dink Network was redink1's Smallnet, and redink1's Smallnet was quite small, Mike Snyder was kind of the unofficial King of the Dink community. He didn't earn the title through his web site... it was (and is) fairly modest, and didn't have all the news and all the D-Mods you could want. However, he did kickstart the entire Dink community.

He released the first third-party publicly released D-Mod ever, The Scar of David. He created the Skeleton and the D-Mod Editing FAQ to help others create D-Mods. And to help connect the D-Mods being released, he started the Timeline. And, if I remember correctly, he even coined the term D-Mod.

In most Dinker's eyes, Mike Snyder also made the best D-Mods. While this doesn't seem to be true today, back then when only a very few were released, his seemed to be preferred. When people asked what D-Mods they should download, "anything by Mike Snyder" was a common answer.

However, there was at least one person who's name escapes me who disliked King Snyder. Indeed, it bordered on direct hatred. This fellow disliked the idea of anyone being 'king' of the Dinkiverse. He pestered the forums with finding all the bugs he could in all of Mike's D-Mods... and he even edited a picture of Mike and put a crown on his head. This fellow seemed to think Mike self-appointed himself as king of the Dink community for selfish reasons... when anyone could see that the community appointed Mike as the unofficial and undeclared king. Most people disagreed with that fellow, and all was good.

Then Mike just sort of left the Dink Community... once Dinkanoid was released, he seemed to stop doing anything Dink related, and started working on Lunatix Online. And now he is working on StarLock, which has been going on for ages.

In Closing...

I finally painted my computer case red... as you can see partially see in my photo at Dink Squad.

Um... I got my grades back from GVSU. 4 As, 1 A-. Terrible, I know.

Lets see... I seem to be an slow overbearing moderator on some comments pages. But I call them as I see them... and as you probably know, I don't see them right all the time.

I'm working on FIAT v1.00 and another D-Mod. FIAT v1.00 is having a lot of changes... Medlid's entire quest structure is being changed, several islands are being cut down, a couple dungeons are going to be completely redesigned, and more. And with all of these changes, hopefully all of the bugs will be fixed.

Well, thats it. And remember, if you think that any part of Recondite is completely worthless, post a comment.
