Random Question Out O' Nowhere
Hey everybody. I found this coin in my aunt's basement and I think that somebody on this board is bound to know what it is. It says "NEDER...SCH INDIE- 2 1/2 CENT" around the edge, but where the three dots are that I put, there are three obscured letters. It has an emblem in the middle with a lion holding a sword and a crown over that. The other side looks like a bunch of squiggly lines- anybody know what kind of coin this is? It's not neccessary or anything, I'm just exceedingly curious. Thanks :).

Actually, it seems to be four letters... to spell out "NEDERLANDSCH INDIE - 2 1/2 CENT".

While I know nothing of coins, I do know my way around search engines :)  Google didn't like me, so Altavista revealed the name.

Here are a couple related URLs, some for the 1 cent.

Though there doesn't seem to be a lot of information available... but from the descriptions of the other-related coins, it doesn't seem to be worth much.

I suppose a coin book of some sort would reveal more.

Hey, a Dutch coin with the Dutch lion on it from the time of the VOC, that could be worth a lot :)

I checked it out, its worth nothing, like $2, about 120,400,000 of those were struck :p , BTW, VOC = Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, you could say: United East-Indonesia Company

Oh well, then it's worth nothing. At least you've got something that not everyone has :p
