Board Wipe Soon
Within the next 24 hours, the board will be wiped clean.  The index file is nearing a half-megabyte, and the larger it gets, the more work the server does and the longer it takes to load.

And we're nearing 3000 messages... wow.

Cya on the other side.
Could you consider some alternative?
It is not good to wait for centuries to load up the board, but there did exist quite a few informative and useful thing in the message. Is it possible that you simply move the old message of the board to an archive style thing and people can access that if they want to dig out some old dirt. If any staff really have some time, he can clean up a few of those flaming childish useless message.

At some point I was thinking of doing an additional FAQ file including some useful information that was not covered by Mike Snyder's FAQ. An archive message would definitely help if someone really wants to do it.

Earlier there were some discussions about multiple boards. Maybe an old one (or a few old ones) and a current active board would be a possible solution.

You did put all news messages into archive. Some of the messages in the board were at least as good (or iiformative) as the news message. Please do not wipe it off just like that. Thank you for the re-consideration.

I was going to implement an archive last time... but I accidently wiped the main indexing file, which stored all of the subjects/usernames/message numbers/etc.  This time I'll try to back everything up, and implement access to the archive at a later date.
Kill it!
woohoo!

Not only that, but about 2/3 of the current archive is full of nothing but flames. We could really use a wipe. :)

god you guys... you really just wqant o walk away, dont you?? why?? huh?? why not DEAL with the issues at hand. you cant run away forever...:

tullisti's second prediction:

1.- Jamie will come back, and, after a breif period of calm, things will happen again. sabre, I, and maybe a few others will get into an argument. threads will be deleted, and everyone else will say things like "just walk away from it", and "just ignore it". however, this time, somethnig bigger will happen. either redink will step in, or we will vote on an outcome...

BTW, soemthing VERY much like this happened on the sylpheed-claws-dev mailing list about 2 years ago. one developer (not me) has a very strong opinion of how the GTK widget sets should be programmed, and he was really insistant. things started getting worse, and he started flaming people. then he started hacking people. i believe he caused loss of data on someoens windows machine (let that be a warning to you, never use windows!!)....anyway, n the end, this is what happened:

everyone on the list was asked to send one email to the list admin, explainng their point of veiw, what they think should/should not happen. THEN, once all the posts had been collected, they were posted to the list. then several punishments were suggested. they were things like "users should be banned from the ML" , "users should be banned from CVS", and a variete of others. THEN, everyone had one vote, which was a paragraph on what should happen. it was up tot eh list admin to sort it out. he then decided to ban the user from the mailing list for 3 months. after that time period, they were free to enlist again, if they wanted. they did not. so you see, there is probably some moral in here smewhere. i just have to find it.

It's easy to present a problem, but finding a solution is another thing. From what I've learned, there's almost nothing you CAN do against such people except banning them, but then I predict this community will fall apart.

Re: Board Wipe Soon
If we can get the flaming under control I don't think there will be a problem with the site going under. When I first came to this site there wasn't any flaming, only good, humorous picking at one another. And that made the board fun to visit, but by allowing the flaming to continue this site is going downhill fast. :(

We can all suggest what should be done but its up to Redink1 for the final dicision. Only he can put a stop to it. Maybe banning a dinker from posting for a certain length of time would be best; however, if it happens we will all feel bad about it. Nobody wants to see this happen, but I believe once or twice will be all it would take. Once the flamers (and I've been guilty of it myself) realize the seriousness of this offence I believe this site will return to and remain a fun site to belong to. I least I hope so. :)

FLAMERS: MAN YOUR E-MAIL! ;)
