: : : : Within the next 24 hours, the board will be wiped clean. The index file is nearing a half-megabyte, and the larger it gets, the more work the server does and the longer it takes to load.
: : : : And we're nearing 3000 messages... wow.
: : : : Cya on the other side.
: : : Not only that, but about 2/3 of the current archive is full of nothing but flames. We could really use a wipe. :)
: : Exactly what I was thinking.
: god you guys... you really just wqant o walk away, dont you?? why?? huh?? why not DEAL with the issues at hand. you cant run away forever...:
: tullisti's second prediction:
: 1.- Jamie will come back, and, after a breif period of calm, things will happen again. sabre, I, and maybe a few others will get into an argument. threads will be deleted, and everyone else will say things like "just walk away from it", and "just ignore it". however, this time, somethnig bigger will happen. either redink will step in, or we will vote on an outcome...
: BTW, soemthing VERY much like this happened on the sylpheed-claws-dev mailing list about 2 years ago. one developer (not me) has a very strong opinion of how the GTK widget sets should be programmed, and he was really insistant. things started getting worse, and he started flaming people. then he started hacking people. i believe he caused loss of data on someoens windows machine (let that be a warning to you, never use windows!!)....anyway, n the end, this is what happened:
: everyone on the list was asked to send one email to the list admin, explainng their point of veiw, what they think should/should not happen. THEN, once all the posts had been collected, they were posted to the list. then several punishments were suggested. they were things like "users should be banned from the ML" , "users should be banned from CVS", and a variete of others. THEN, everyone had one vote, which was a paragraph on what should happen. it was up tot eh list admin to sort it out. he then decided to ban the user from the mailing list for 3 months. after that time period, they were free to enlist again, if they wanted. they did not. so you see, there is probably some moral in here smewhere. i just have to find it.
It's easy to present a problem, but finding a solution is another thing. From what I've learned, there's almost nothing you CAN do against such people except banning them, but then I predict this community will fall apart.
