does dink work in 640X480 mode??


can anyone tell me if dink will run with windows running at 640X480 res?? i ask cos i keep n getting the error:



"640X480 8 bit not supported."



is the problem the 640X480?? shouldn't be, seeing as dink runs at something like that res. what about the 8 bit?? hmmm.. il try changing it...

now that IS wierd. it says "8 bit not supported", but im running in 32 bit mode!! eh?? using 32 bit patched or 64 bit (or even 64 bit patched) doesn't change anything... maybe i should try 16 bit... or 8 bit?? hmmm

If you are running XP, right-click on dink.exe and use these settings:



emulation windows 95

640x480

256 colors

no visual themes

im not. win98. i could try XP i suppose. i DO have it installed somewhere....

Dink runs in 640x480 8 bit.  Therefore, it isn't complaining about your current resolution/color range, but the fact that it can't run Dink because 640x480 8 bit mode probably isn't supported in your Win98 vmware thingy.



(Going out on a VERY thin limb): As far as I know, DirectX doesn't work in linux at all, even using funky emulators.  And Dink was compiled using DirectX 5 or 6, so... I don't think it would work at all.  However, I know nothing about linux (I will dedicate a partition to it in the fall though, when I have broadband to download a version), and the above is something I remember reading off of slashdot.org, and may possibly be a manufactured memory.

yeah, id agree if i was us9ng wine or something, but the coolness o vmware is that its TOTAL emulation. windows cant tell that its running under another OS. i can play Baldurs Gate 2 fine, and many other games, so i dunno...hmmmm...

Just for fun, try running it with the -window option.  It will run funny, if at all.
