Hmm, it does seem that people have found it difficult to find what to do next, but SURELY it's not that hard.
I mean, the only way I can see that as being the case is the books part, which is quite different to most d-mods.
In fact, when making Cloud I tried (and I feel, succeeded) to break new ground in the way things are done. It is very different to the way most d-mods work, and I feel that it is a better style, as I find it quite patronising to be spoon fed by the author.
But I DO find it hard to believe you can criticise the lack of direction in what you must do, what with the rock in The Creeping Sands. :)
Oh well, never mind.
I thought that it said (in the README!) about reading the books a fair bit, maybe you did not pick up on that.
Any recommendations for changes in CC II : Scarab?

But since he choose this place to discuss the issue. Here we are....
It's strange really. We both actually think the same thing is wrong with each other's DMOD. I found the enemies hard to kill at first and so did he, I didn't think CC was clear on what to do and he thinks TCS wasn't clear on what to do... and I can argue until the cows come home about that but what's the point?
There's a rock on the bridge. Gotta move it. Anything other than a fist says "This weapon doesn't work... blah blah" If strength is less than 8 Dink complains about his knuckles being sore... blah blah blah. So I go and change this for version 0.5 - Does he bother to check this when he revises his review? Oh no... can't do that. But wait, isn't this the same SabreTrout who was practically begging Scratcher to revise his review after he updated his tutorial? Hmmmmmmmmm.
Seems what's good for the goose ain't good for the gander. Oh well. Not to worry... He don't like TCS... other people do. I find that with all my DMODs. Some people like them, some people don't. I like making them and that's the fun part for me (when the damn things work :p )
I wonder if I give his next DMOD a review what will he do? I guess it depends if I give it a 9.9 or my honest opinion ;)
Yes, well I changed the rock thing based on people's [namely yours] feedback. ;) Now the rock says different things the more you punch it. I feel putting anything more in there is - as you say - spoon feeding. The main thing I'd suggest is put more dialgoue with characters as the story progresses, and to reinforce the overall goal or objective of the DMOD. ie Find out why people are disappearing. Although it is there... it never seemed a big enough threat. Maybe if the girl who blushes disappeared during the story as well as the woman in house next to the pigs (afterall neither of them said much to help the story after their initial dialogue) ... And Dink comments on their disappearance. Those sorts of things keep the idea of kidnapping more alive than having people just say the same thing over and over again.
Other things I'd suggest for CC 1: the orchard guy should have said something about the dead tree roots and suggest Dink go underground (or the tree could've said something cryptic once Dink had visited the fairy ring). Other characters should talk about books and reading them. Fairy ring should've reacted to the number of things Dink had or didn't have to make it work. Etc.
The enemies at the end... the knights... got a little tedious, but what DMOD doesn't with the enemy battling thing ;)
As for reading the readme... well don't assume your players do that :)
Redo the DMOD and I'll redo my review ;)
O.k I'll take those things in mind...
And I will do a new review of TCS once I have played the latest version. Buut you must understand Simeon, that you can't go off on one like you did due to a small error like mine (not realizing there was a new version) without sounding quite smallminded. Especially you thinking that it was all dow to your review of CC....
Never mind though, I don't care what you say, even though you do have valid opinions, the amount of times you have got "uppity" and upset about small things has just got on my nerves.
But lets start again, and I'll do a new review when I play the new version through.
