I can't help with Arithina except to suggest you get the Ultimate Cheat or similar and unlock the scren yourself, it sounds like a bug.
In PoA you need to press M to select the different spell in each rune. This one goes in the second rune.

It's the freeze magic the hermit will give you. He wants a sign of good will, but the sign you will give him is not want he wants. He wants something else... forgot what that was... But anyway, it's not that sign you got from, I think it was the church.
Dunno bout the other game...
