Announcement for departure in a month
I downloaded Dink Smallwood about a year ago and stay quite active from time to time, but I will most likely leave Dink community in a month because my new job (starts Aug 1st) might eat up all of my time. I might visit DN from time to time occasionally, but might not do and contribute anything more. :(
I was working on 4 different dmod project in the past year. Here are their current status and likely fate:
1. The Other World:
I released a trailer for this epic dmod. More than 400 new graphics files and 130 scripts have been done for this. Lots of revised tilt screen. More than 140 map screens now.
I was hoping to at least give this a push so that a demo can be released by July, 2002, but it is a long shot. If not, I don't know what I am going to do with it...
2. Quest to Master Sorcerer:
This was a quest attempt. A sorcerer apprentice tries to bacome a master of all magic. At least 16 different magic spells were designed. (scripts, not graphics) Map design was halfly done, but other than that it was still way from finished.
It will probably never be finished unless DN stays alive for another few years. :(
3. Dink M Vacation:
It was originally set to be a romp, but it is now even bigger than many quest dmods. Young Dink goes vacation. Many sub-missions/mini-games wold be included. This was originally thought to be finished before last Christmas, but...
This will be my first priority right now, and I hope I can finish it as I intended in a month. Wish me luck.
4. Dink's Funeral Quest:
I spent quite a lot of time in playing Seth's new online game in the past few months, so I decided to have a Dmod version of FQ game which will include lots of features that I suggested for FQ game but Seth denied or postponed. ;) However, this dmod is in the very first stage and the original FQ game is still a beta test version, so I don't think this project would go anywhere.
I have also another develop file about tile hardness. It was very similar to Hard Tiles Labeled (by FB series author, Wesley McElwee). I did not know the existence of that file until I finished my file 90%. I did find that my file was better (in my opinion) than his, but since it was so similar that I don't have the desire to finish it and release it. Now I will try to find some time and finish it this month. Hope it will help people a little more on this difficult subject.
If I have some fractional time from now to July, I would try to add more reviews. At least I recieved a few good emails praising my in-depth and honorable reviews. So I hope I can make more contribution there...
I don't know if anyone is going to miss me. ;) But I did enjoy the past year Dinking. I know I am older than most of the active Dinkers and should have quitted PC games at least 10 years. But the idea for creating my own rpg games kept me in...
Good luck to you all.
