A Warning To All... Prowler Poll Voting

This Saturday on Recondite, there will be a new feature: Prowler Poll IP Addresses. Because dial-ups often change IP addresses with every connect, many people have been voting a lot more than once, and skewing the vote. And because IP addresses are also available for all to see in the comments, people will put two-and-two together. There isn't a way to match votes to IPs though. For example:

A new feature on Recondite: Prowler Poll IP Addresses. Lets see who voted mulitple times! Feel free to post comments to guess who is who.

(148.61.218.*) voted 15 times in the poll! A quick traceroute reveals this person lives in Michigan somewhere.... And if you look close, that IP address is seen often on the comments pages...

(34.74.234.*) voted 5 times in the poll! This person lives somewhere near the North Poll... I haven't seen the IP address around before...

The IP addresses listed are FAKE. Look on Saturday's Recondite for the real ones. <sup>[NT]</sup>

Sigh... I made up the last one as an example (like there is somebody around the North Pole). And the first one was my own IP address :)

I'm not after those who accidently voted twice or three times... I don't expect people to remember every single time they voted. But, this week I decided to look at the IP addresses for fun to see if any abuse was going on... and at least SIXTEEN votes were from very similar IP addresses. I think there were some other cases with at least five votes from similar IPs. So I'm not after those who accidently vote twice or three or four times. I figure if you vote five times, you should remember at least one other time you voted.

...that's just stupid. I'm sure there are more constructive things to do.
