D-Mod Categories Help
Hey all, with the redesign of The Dink Network being planned, I need some more help.

I need ideas for D-Mod categories, like small, medium, large, weird, etc.  Here are some I've thought of:

Epic (Prophecy, SOB, FB3, etc.)

Arcade (Frogger, Dinkanoid, etc.)

'Small' (Dinkzilla, etc.)

'Medium' (End of Time, Quest for Cheese, etc.)

The small and medium are just ideas... if you can think of a word that would better fit small/medium post it, and if you can think of any other categories, post a comment.

Also the categories shouldn't overlap too much... like "Funny" wouldn't be a good category.

Oh, and Author Files will become Developing, thanks to Scratcher's idea.

I don't know if others agree with me on this, but doesn't "Development" sound better?

How about you rename this one 'special' (not quite in the same sense john meant I think. In this case it means d-mods that are very different from normal. I would also include for example dinkers and tutorial d-mods like latern demo(unless those go in a whole area caragory).

: 'Small' (Dinkzilla, etc.)

: 'Medium' (End of Time, Quest for Cheese, etc.)

hmm, those are kind of vague...

I can't think of a better idea though.

How about unfinished? Does that warrent it's own caragory?

Arcade is good. But quick would be a better synonym for small. Average could be for medium. You could also rate them by difficulty. not only size but difficulty, and player skill level. I think there should be a 'special' category, where outstanding dmods or dmods with a ton of secrets are kept. I know you have a rating system, and it's good and all but if you want to categorize, make it specific to the quality of the dmod, not just the size/and or genre.

I disagree with John on this one. It seems that redink1 only want to categorize different dmods. Since when you say "special" about a dmod, most of the authors will think their dmods are special. When things come to judgement calls, it would fall into people's taste. Dinkzilla is 'special' even if you don't like it, and so is POA.

To catagorize dmods by their degrees of difficulty is fine, but it also come down to people's skill. Some people use bow pretty well, but others don't. (I killed Seth in the original Dink twice by using Light sword without cheating, but I can never kill him with the powerful flame bow.)

For redink1, I don't like small and medium. They are NOT comparible to epic.

How about 'quest' or 'mission' for small or medium size dmods with story of single (or a few) mission(s)? (quest for small-size, and missions for medium-size. Or vice versa.)

How about 'break' for tiny little thing like "Dinkzilla"?

How are you going to catagorize series of dmods like RotD and FB? Will they be seperated by their size or catagorize as a whole? And are you going to put demos, trailers, and unfinished mods to a seperate page?

Yes there should be a different page for trilogies I think.

Current Decisions for Categories, more.

There won't be seperate pages for different categories (though they may be split into pages of 50 or so for faster downloading).  If the category is even listed on the page, it will only be used to differentiate it from the others.  In my Dinky Dimensions trilogy, FIAT would probably garner an Epic category, whereas EOT2 would probably get an Adventure.  Trilogies will be grouped together on the page by name only.

Here is what I've decided so for the categories (in no way final).  They are in order of priority(if the categories conflict, the one highest on the list will be the decision).  Also, where there is an "or", the name hasn't been decided between those names listed.

Unfinished or Beta (DinkCraft, abandoned demos, etc.)

Demo (Uh... a demo)

Different or Strange or Weird (Dinkanoid, Explorations: redink1's basement, etc.)

Romp (Dinkzilla, Ed the SCV, etc.)

Adventure or Quest (EOT, Quest for Cheese, etc.)

Epic (POTA, SOB, SOP, FB3, etc.)

I think that fits every D-Mod.
