Blender3d
Hey I found this free 3D program and it looks like it seems a good program if you are good at creating 3d objs and stuff. Just thought anyone wanting to create a D-MOD might wanna have a look at it :)

Somebody posted this a awhile back and I checked it out then.  What I remember of it is that it was incredibly complicated, more so than a lot of other graphics programs out there (Poser for example, although thats not FREE!  Anim8or is a very User-friendly, intuitive, and FREE graphics program).  Another thing I seem to recall about Blender is that you can't render.  You can take a screen shot, I suppose, but that could get tedious if you're creating an animation such as a walk or an attack sequence for your d-mod.

I also don't think you can import many 3d formats into Blender...Anim8or I know can read, .3ds, .lwo, and .obj.

Has any one else found a decent free(or inexpensive) 3d graphics program?

Pippin, if you figure out how to run Blender with ease, maybe you could write a tutprial for us all? :p

True, it takes time to learn. But there are tutorials and a learning path. This is a pretty powerful piece of software if you take the time to learn it. And they still have a free version.

No, you can render as a jpg, targa, avi. Different sizes, using keys, alpha channels.

Blender imports dxf, vrml.

Check out the 'Learning Path'link in resources or tutorial section in the Blender community page. Takes a bit of searching, by memory.

I used Blender for most of the new graphics in SOB. In fact the scorpion was one of my first attempts - it's amazing what you can get away with when the final sprite size is very small :p
