FIAT: the key in the catacombs under the church

In the catacombs under the church, is the key hidden in a secret place or something. I have been all over the bottom layer and having no luck except for all of the gold you can get. which, brings me to a side question. Is it advantageous or a waste of 500 bucks to buy the map?

There is a spot where you walk left seemingly thru the walls.

I always love having the map. But it's a personal preference I guess.

well the map has been a big help so far, and with as much money you get from those pillbugs it's worth it. Just 5-10 minutes of mindless slashing gives you tons of money, so the question is, why not?
