question-- If you killed a monster, he coughed up a sword and you were too full to keep it, is it gone forever or will another drop it.  This has happened to me and i just wonder if I need to start the last two islands over again.

There is no limit to the number of special weapons that are dropped.  If you killed enough slayers/giants, you could end up with an inventory full of Gimac's Swords or whatever else.
