Hehe.  I thought Gmax didn't support image exporting at all... just exporting to game (Quake, Half-Life, etc.) formats.  Could be wrong.

I like Poser 4.  Cheap (even if you don't warez it), and is cool.  Bryce 4 is what RTSoft used for some of the original graphics (some trees and rocks, maybe more), but I can't figure out how to make tree textures un-anti-aliased.

Actually gmax doesn't export to a whole lot of 3D games, either.  The only games I can remember are Dungeon Siege, Quake III (with a special plug-in), and about 2 others.  Its way better than most free or close-to-free 3D editing programs, but the format thing sucks.

BTW, if you really want to improvise, you could always just use the printscreen key then paste it in something like Paint Shop Pro or Photo Shop.  Although, this is a real pain-in-the-a$$ (Ha Ha, take that you stupid censor! :p).  Believe me, I've tried it before and it ain't fun.
gmax exports to specific games only
I'm pretty sure gmax exports to specific games only. So not Dink directly. You'll have to do what Striker says.

I still think the best free 3D program is still blender. It just takes some time to learn. But what comprehensive 3D graphics/animation/particle system package doesn't ;)
