Fiat - Rife (south) - Axe etc.

I have just gotten to Rife. I have walked all the places I can get to. I have pushed the bed, seen the blocked tunnel and fireplace in the basement (from other messages I gather a "minion" is supposed to appear - he doesn't). I have given the lady back her necklace and received Axe Lore or Luck or something or rather. I have tried to go back to a different island, but the bridge says "I need to look around some more". Help! I can't seem to advance - what have I missed? What shall I do now? (I have the most recent version of Fiat, which includes patch H).

Thanks for any tips/tricks/spoilers/directions :)

have you gone to north Rife yet? You need the fire axe first(have that guy instill it)

I don't have an axe. How do I get an axe?

Yes I had, and he never appeared. Finally, I started from a previous saved game, and just walked around Rife saying "I have a duck necklace" until the Minion appeared over in the garden. I thought I was stuck in an odd glitch forever.
