uestions: how do you get to the machine to make it stop raining(it slows gameplay down, and the noise is driving me NUTS); and I killed a couple spike monsters in So. Tware, but didn't get spikes.  Is someone supposed to tell me to first?  If so, who?

No spikes involved. Look for a wizard on Rai.
