FIAT Crashes!?
While playing through FIAT (for many many many hours, in innumerable stages of development), I haven't had FIAT crash once.  Not once (I've had it freeze a couple times when I didn't put wait statements in loops, but those were fixed right after it happened).

So, reports of it crashing now concern me.  I've heard that it crashes most during the Rife Dungeon and the Final Dungeon (and yes I have played through both areas multiple times, in their final forms).

I can't determine why it is crashing because it has never happened to me.  So, I kindly request your help.

If your game crashes, what version of Dink are you using?  v1.06 or v1.07?  I've always used v1.06 and haven't tested it with v1.07 at all.

If FIAT crashes for you, what are the specs on your computer?  I ran it on a 1.4 GHZ Athlon and a 333 mhz K6-2 and I haven't had any problems.

If FIAT crashes for you, what areas does it do so?

Thanks.

It crashes rather randomly and frequent.  Every hour or so.  I should say I didn't notice any crashes until after about the Water Knight (but don't quote me on that).  This most recent time I was doing the dance game.  Here are my specs:

Dink v1.06

Celeron 400 MHz

video and audio from motherboard

160 MB RAM

4 GB HD + 2 GB HD (Dink is on the 2Gig, swap is on the 4 Gig).

Windows 98 SE

(I know my system sucks!!!)

Re: FIAT Crashes!?
v1.06, win98, 128 RAM on a Pentium II.

It crashes ALOT for me. In the catacombs, in the fire dungeon, everytime in the dancing area (I still haven't passed that yet), and sometimes for no reason at all. If I'm fighting or walking with the hyper boots, it sometimes crashes and sends me back to my desktop. I hope this gets fixed. OH, and I'm still having buttstomp problems, even with patch d :(
Re: FIAT Crashes!?
Dink Version: the new 1.07 Beta 3 (which nobody has posted in the news about :) )

FIAT version: 0.99d

Comp specs: Pentium something-or-other (says P4, but my assorted analysis programs say P3), 128MB RAM (send me an upgrade for Xmas somebody), a nice 40 gig hard drive on which to store large amounts of junk. I want one of those 100+ gig HDs that cost the price of your average computer, but that's beside the point.

Area: Once in the dancing area, out of the three or so times I've tried it.

I'd be happy happy happy if this were fixed up :)
Re: FIAT Crashes!?
..and as for comp specs, I've got a 16MB Nvidia Vanta video card and an unknown sound card.

FIAT Crashes?

Oh yeah, you better believe it!  It seems to be completely random for me.  I generally get about 45 to an hours worth of play before it crashes to windows.  And of course, there's the occational crash where I have to reboot to get windows to get un-screwed up.

AMD Athlon 900MHz, 192Mb RAM, 32bit TNT2m64 PCI graphics card, Sound Blaster PCI 128 sound card.
Re: FIAT Crashes!?
I use v1.06, Pentium III 800, 192 MB Ram, 16 bit Nvidia Graphics card.

It crashed many times in the final dungeon and in the fire gungeon. Usually while changing weapons. Fire Axe, Water Magic (which you had to do because of that pesky pig) But in the final battle with FIAT I had it crash twice while hitting that big beast.

I used to get lots of crashing in SOB, and it turned out to be the hit procedure of my new sprites checking to see if it was the sleep bomb. So I modified this. Not sure if you have anything similar within your scripts. Good luck finding the bug.
Re: FIAT Crashes!?
I ran FIAT at a Pentium 600 with 128 MB RAM under Win 98. I was using Dink 1.07.

I cannot pinpoint where the crashes were. But it seems that it usually happened when I tried to run fast from a screen to another screen OR hit key strokes very fast to kill lots of monsters OR change items too often. It did not just happen inside the dungeon. I did remember that it crashed on one of the isle when I just ran (with hyper boot) and it also crashed once when I tried to pass the dance task. It crashed at least 3 times while I was at inventory page.

Usually it just automatically closed the game and went back to desktop. Some other time everything just froze and I needed to hard reset my computer.

Re: FIAT Crashes!?
I'm using FIAT 0.99c with Dink 1.06.

Windows 2000 on a 466MHz Celeron.

It made my computer reboot several times while in the catacombs under the church in Medlid, but I eventually was able to just run in and get the key.

There was no warning, I was just playing and all of a sudden it rebooted.  This is the first time Windows 2000 has ever done that in over a year of running on this box (ruined my 8 weeks uptime too).

It didn't seem to be dependent on any one thing, for example I think it happened while swinging my sword and while just walking around.  When it happened it was within a few minutes of entering the catacombs.
Re: FIAT Crashes!?
I am happy to say that Fiat has never crashed on me.  Freeze?  Yes, but not since the patches were loaded.  My machine is not exactly new anymore, 600 MHZ Pentium 3.
