Not a bug, but a "feature" (Possible spoiler about Machine in Tware)
In Tware, I was able to stop the rain without getting into the area where the machine is.  You can do this by using the "talk" button on the back wall behind the machine.  This caused a little bit of confusion.  The result is that I didn't get the duck whistle until after I gave it away on Rife.  I suppose the only downside of that is now I'm stuck  with a whistle.

I had  similar experience, except that I misread the clues about entering this area.  I shot many arrows nto the wall ( twang and whoosh) and then somehow I was able to sneak throught the wall and turn off the machine.

If this, or any of the other reported ways of turning off the machine were not redink1's intention, then I suggest that he rework the mechanics for this particular part of the quest.

I also got stuck later on with the duck whistle, even though the healer on Rife said he took it from me even before I knew I had it.

I don't understand.  I didn't even have a duck wistle at Tware.  I shut the machine off the same way you did.  Is there a proper way?  If so, let me know please...

I think the proper way is to get the duck whistle from the wizard on Ria (I think) on the screen that had several arrows and a pole.  Then you collect 6 ducks in the whistle.  Go to the machine and fire the ducks at the statue blocking the entrance.  Now you have access to the machine.

After I got the whistle, the message from the book about fowl and music from the land with trees made  more sense.

BTW, shouldn't the whistle damage enemies?  I guess that isn't the intent.
