need a spoiler on rife

For several hours, I've been trying to get to the north of rife. I found the blocked off tunnel, but nothing seems to unblock it. There also seems to be no other way north on the island. I like the southern side of rife, but I'm ready to move on. I am prepared to feel silly when I hear the answer.

Did you get the axe from the guy who wanted 20 water spike shells? If so, you need to use that axe to advance.

Yeah, I finally figured it out. It turns out that instilled weapons are not always the best. I had all kinds of axes, but all overly qualified. Go figure! Thanks for your reply.

Also, that pig in north Rife should be locked up. He's a real menace to society. A regular pain in the bacon.
