It IS inefficient, but easy to use and not as slow as you'd think.
I never said it was slow. In fact the process would be a lot faster. as for the program, well, like all other computer related things, it depends on code, computer, OS, etc. In other words, each independant situation is different, just like self-coded programs.
Note: Despite what the above post implies, I think a mixture of IDE use and self-coding is the most efficent.
