Okay all you Dinkers... I'm in the final stages of Alpha of Pilgrim's Quest and thought I'd do a little market research about gameplay:

Levelling up - hard or easy? I remember walking around forever in the original Dink to get money exp so I could get strong enough to battle slayers, then doing it again to battle stone giants. But do people like this?

1. Do you like fighting loads of monsters?

2. Do you like secrets with extra goodies that help in leveling up or not?

3. Ummm... saying anything useful here about gameplay...

4. Oh, there are riddles in Pilgrim's Quest, and I can't take them out as they are part of the story progression... So for those that don't like riddles I guess you wont be playing

PS There is a webpage with a couple of pics on it for those who can find it... thought I'd tease you a bit

3. Mmmm.. good luck, and try to release soon .

4. well, if I dont like riddles < i can take 'em > when i really dont know answer, the suck.

And if you wanna some (from about 5000 riddles), i can send you few..

Guess, what would happen if a boot would be dropped into the river by the Eifel (sory for lang) tower, with goes down to the Indinerra falls?

I'd say that fighting many monsters is usually a bad idea. Fighting is fun, but not when it's screen after screen packed with monsters that you have to kill to be strong enough to survive later.

Perhaps a good way would be for if you kill nearly all monsters, the game starts easy and gets harder as the game goes on, with any secrets found boosting you enough to give you that extra edge in a fight. And maybe not just having potions and gold hearts as secrets, but special weapons etc.

Having to constantly level up is not fun, something that I found very frustrating with TCS.

And as for riddles, it's good to have a d-mod that makes you think every so often.

There haven't been many d-mod (not good ones anyway) recently, so I eagerly anticipate the release of this!

I like leveling up, but raising the stats only by fighting is tedious. So, putting a lot of secrets on the map makes it much much much more interesting.

And about the riddles, I like them a lot, but you should be able to get a tip to solve the difficult ones somewhere or you won't be able to progress.

Sometimes. But I don't like HAVING to fight lots of monsters. Screenlock for example can be very annoying if overused.

On the topic of leveling up, gaining a level itself in Dink have apretty minor effect. In most d-mods it seems like finding bonuses makes a bigger difference than gaining levels. I think it would be cool to see a d-mod where gaining a level was really something to be happy about.

: 2. Do you like secrets with extra goodies that help in leveling up or not?

You mean like potions and gold hearts? Yeah, I think finding them is fun, but see the comment above.

: 3. Ummm... saying anything useful here about gameplay...

Let's see, uhh, In general, I prefer d-mods that aren't too hard. And you'es tend to a be a little on the hard side. (still great fun mind you, but a little harder than I like)

Nah, no problem with riddles. After all the worst that can happen is you have to ask someone the answer.

I think leveling up should be hard, though not ridiculous. Start with pillbugs that seem hard at first and progress through the baddies.

The riddles are a must, and a staple of SimonK dmods..their cool.

The website...hmmm...No clue. Its not the blender page with the frog etc. is it?

The frog is in Pilgrim's Quest... but not the dragon - at least no that version. There is another page out there... I wonder how long before the search engines have it listed
