I can't move forward or... anywhere.

yes

Thoughts bounce back and forth in my head.

yes

Have you ever feeled something went terribly wrong with your past but you just can't fix it anymore?

yes

Ever lost something and really wanted it back, but knew you couldn't get it back?

Life is filled with uncertainty and pain. But it is also a place of joy if you can find it. Sometimes this is hard to do.

Yes, I have felt lost several times in my life and suffered regrets. But, learning to not look back is an important skill. You need to look forward.

Talking about your difficulties with someone you trust (in RL) is a start. Then, don't try to fix everything at once, just focus on fixing one thing at a time, as each day goes by. Try to avoid letting yourself become overwhelmed again.

Forgive me if my (perhaps unwanted) advice seems pointless or even intrusive. Everyone suffers, if for no other reason than life is not perfect and that you need to overcome hardships in order to appreciate the good parts of life.

Good Luck.

But, it seems to me that the main message you should take away from these conversations is that perhaps you do need professional help.

first off, don't take medicine in an attempt to improve your mood. 99% of meds are created to take advantage of a situation and make money. i assume you're taking anti-depressants?

those are pretty dangerous, actually. they make you tired, have walls of side effects including the exact stuff you're trying to get rid of, cost a bunch and can give you a dependency. trash those immediately. or if they're not anti-depressants, trash whatever you've gotten. they won't help.

what will help is to find people to relate to. talk with them, do whatever with them. maybe even someone here could relate better if you could be more specific. or, you could connect with people who share interests. it'll take time to feel better, but it'll happen eventually unlike if you keep relying on chemical junk.

maybe you could also try something new. or something. anything to keep you occupied that isn't harmful. also cut out whatever you can that's toxic.

> Things aren't getting better. I just feel everything is getting worse. What am I supposed to do when nobody can help me?

Please...
...get professional help... soon. Obviously chatting in a public forum with assorted well meaning Dinkers is not making things better.

> I mean, really. The medicine I take doesn't help me.

Talk to the person who prescribed it for you.

>You know, it's weird to be me. I aspire for greatness, but don't do much for it.

You are obviously a person whose contributions here at the DN are significant and useful, so I'm sure you could contribute to some other venture that would fulfill you more too. But, to (attempt to) answer your question, greatness requires you to work hard (ideally at something you love, which always makes it easier) and service to others. You clearly have both of those within you or you would not be worrying about this matter so much.

> I'm not satisfied with my situation, and I always want more. I want to change the world, but I doubt I'm capable. I want to ask something: how far would you be willing to go in order to achieve a goal?

I'd say go as far as it takes to achieve that goal without compromising your sense of morality and ethics.

I did that eight times to drive it in. It doesn't matter if you have been, continue if so. Don't feel bad if you aren't able to move forward, you're depressed, I've bee there and continue to be there. Right now, I'm a complete ducking mess of a person who can't even gather the willpower to finish a ducking game. Life sucks, but you and I can do it. Push onward until you can't anymore, and when you can't, have someone help you. When you cannot rely on others to help you, fortify, shut out the negative thoughts, pick something simple, do that, and then pick something else. Get mad, become so mad at your situation that you must conquer it, let the rage carry you on, and if you can do all of it at once, all the better.
Make a list of things to do, they don't have to be world-shattering, list five simple things that need to be done; dishes, taking the trash out, cleaning your room, mowing your lawn, filling out an application to a job, anything that you can absolutely do within your physical power, and when those five things are done, take that list, put a check mark in it, and put it in a desk drawer for specifically holding those lists. When you feel like you can't even anymore, open that drawer, pull out every list, and remind yourself that this is only a dip, a recession, that you can and will break your way out of it.
My younger brother's recently started helping me deal with my anxiety and inability to do anything other than lay in my bed and do nothing. He's had me pick out one thing to do on the next day, any extra I pick, and he holds me to that and supports me when I need the help. Find someone, a friend, a sibling, even your parents, ask them to support you in this way, have them ask, 'What is one thing that needs to be done?' and do that one thing.
It is not going to be easy, but with support from friends, family, professionals, and those simple tasks that you know you can do and will do because you won't let this shit fly anymore, you'll be able to, at the very least, be able to look around you and say, 'I'm ducking broken, I can barely do anything, but I ducking did this.'
So, let's do this, you and I.

Try Gothic 1 or 2. Or risen 1 (all RPGs made by the same company). In all of these games the world goes to shit and everyone is sad about it. So I guess you can kinda relate to this world and it's characters. I know I did

As for your depression. I told you my advice and Ill say it again. Maybe itll help. When no one and nothing helps you, then you must find a way to solve the problems yourself. Go somewhere nice, calm and quiet and just think about everything going bad in your life and how you can solve them. Maybe some of these problems dont even need to be solved. Maybe they can be ignored. Maybe all you need is to look at things from a different perspective. So many maybes.
The world isnt going to be any better with or without you. Stop thinking that

Also if no one as asked yet ? what is your age a nearest value is fine , so that people who are suggesting things to you can understand your situation better.

Also watch some tv shows like friends . old cartoons like from the 90s are super relaxers.

Since you like reading why not hunt down the nearest library and spend time there, just go and sit inside.

if you are into games why not watch some youtube reviewers like lazy game reviews, avgn , angry joe, game sack etc

I had experienced the same after completing my education and sitting at home for almost a year with no job , got one afterwards and all of those slowly went away, i did not even think what job i wanted just jumped into one that i got.

On sad note though , the day i got that job was the same day that we heard cocomonkey had passed way....still feel bad about him , stayed up all night that day.

For most of us, life is unfortunately a huge series of compromises. Then you die. Happy or unhappy. I can't tell you what will make you happy, I can't tell that even to myself for myself.

Also watch some tv shows like friends
I disagree. Life is short, and it gets subjectively shorter with each passing year. Note the word 'subjective'. The older you are, the faster time goes. Relaxing is fine, but doing nothing AND wasting time is worse.

Now, what the heck I wanted to say now...? As liquid mentioned, knowing your age would make things easier.

Daniel, there are clowns.
Okay, here it to goes. Back when I was oh... 18-ish, I was in a somewhat similar position emotionally and had a real crap homelife (I suffer from CPTSD and dissociation).

With not a lot of other skills aside from some game-dev and having these yet undiagnosed conditions, I joined the team of a now-defunct fangame. I did some coding and a bit of writing, I bonded with a few people there, including a girl I fell in love with. Connection was the one thing that my whole being could actually desire and be motivated to reach for. Thankfully, she eventually returned my feelings and though the relationship ultimately didn't work out, the adventures I went on to try and make that work helped me grow leaps and bounds beyond the person I was.

The strength I gained from that experience and the internal pain I still had drove me to travel to another far-away city I always wanted to live in with just a backpack. There, I found a job that I enjoyed, in a place I liked.

But I was still lonely...

So I moved to yet another city that called to me, this time with a car and a contact, but under worse economic climate. I knew that to survive, I would have to throw myself into the social scenes I thought would work for me. It did and eventually, I thrived with new friends in a new home.

My path is not something I'd recommend to everyone, but if you feel like you have nothing to lose, you might as well go on a grand adventure... because once it's all over, you can't go back and try it.

hmm 20 oh man i was totally lost at that age , luckly my parents decided i was too young to hunt for a job and needed more education and was sent off to college. If you are still interested in studies or any particular subjects, maybe you should try going to college.

Just try to finish of any studying part before 25 hits.

I mentioned friends because it was one of the few shows that ended quite nicely , it might be outdated for today by some i guess.

game of thrones or sherlock ? also south park.

At some point of time you need relax to get your head in the proper mood, if that's not set in no matter what you try will fail. People today are particularly very mentally affected than before, so getting to a calm state is important.

People today are particularly very mentally affected than before

rather, we're more aware of the sheer amount of people like this. there's no increase in how many, but there is an increase in the awareness due to things like the internet and various events or whatever that give people the space to talk about things/create said awareness. back in the dark ages of the 30s or something, it wasn't really possible for people who don't match society's expectations to become visible. now it is. sadly, these people are belittled and assigned fake societal or learning related "illnesses" to explain why they don't fit in with the status quo, rather than accepting they are different.

so. rangerlord. bowman of legends. adding onto what striker said. are you not feeling you fit in? need to destroy loneliness? you might find likeminded people if you search around. maybe go do sumpin with them. pick whatever the hell you like and see if there's anything around you where others like that too. then eat them.

20 eh? Around that time I lost all possible relations with my long lasting 'friends'. It's just a f*cked up part of life, where people grow apart (at least, for me was that way). If you don't want to study, I suggest you to try and find a job. You'll meet new people, and learn some new stuff. Like people relation. You might find what are your interests, and continue to study that. I'm 27, and as someone pointed out try to finish school before 25. But, I just started school (again) at age of 27. Actually, my very good old friend just graduated yesterday in the same school, we are the same age, he finished, I just started. Will I profit from it? I dunno. Will he profit from it? No one can tell. The goal is not to give up, even if it looks meaningless. Sitting at home will get you nothing. And I'm not talking about education, or money... There are more things in life than that. If you sit at home, you lose the connection with people, and THAT is the worst thing that can happen to anyone.

Its a normal thought at that age , all i wanted to do was sit and play games and watch videos at that age and detested work and refused to enter any placement interviews.

Unfortunately down the years , call it karma but i got exactly the same job which i detested at that time despite completing my masters to avoid it.

Try to find some lighter work like assistant for something, or a store manager, designer, anaylst etc but sooner or later you would have dip your toes into the difficult jobs if you want a decent payout.

If you know any friends what are they doing ? why not try to link up with them and maybe you can get a job together?

I know that non violence sentiment aka not want to work for military etc but its something you will grow out soon.

Life isn't as those songs that promote that thinking, my thoughts were like that time because of linkin park songs that i listened , now look at what happened to chester , reality is no match for the legend.

Try playing some of the games i suggested mainly max payne series and metal gear solid

Not many people can decide that , sometimes the heart wins sometimes the mind does. All you can do is think towards longer life plan, doing sudden and shocking things might be a good cheap thrill now but it wont last forever, settling into doing something that might settle your life for good is better.

Cut down your thoughts into what is actually closer to reality , get rid of the wilder thoughts like "yes i will be god someday, i will join the avengers" those are what your mind imagines, follow the thoughts that say "hey i want to do this small job it will help me " , " i want to study this i feel great while studying this. "

You are going to struggle with this for a long time until you start doing something , pick a path studies or job hunt and go with it.

That.

Even though we like to think we are not some of those "special snowflakes", the reality is that we are, kinda. We were all raised being told we would all be something great, that we could change the world if we really tried and, although empowering sometimes, this lie causes a lot of damage to the people who truly believe in it, who then notice that they haven't changed anything in the world, and probably won't ever.

I just wouldn't think about it. Even if you ever got to a position where you could make a political decision that would affect millions of people, by the time you got there you would be a different person yourself.
Like someone suggested starting with small tasks and then going bigger, focus first on getting a grip over your own life, only then, think about how you can improve the life of those who surround you, then go further from there.

Don't worry about what bigger evil would come after Seth, when you don't even have some AlkTree nuts for your mom, man.

It really is hard to choose which is better, but then again you need to let go in order to move on with the next chapter.

I guess we all have experienced the same thing, stop overthinking it as this will only stress you out.

@Skurn
right, i forgot we live in the dark ages where there is zero methods with which to communicate with anyone who's not immediately around you

Communicating via internet is far different from being in the same room with a person (or a group of them). The latter is much harder, and it requires social skills, and those skills can only be developed by actually being among people.

Can you imagine screaming and crying at classes - and can you imagine something like that even a secondary school

Believe me or not I cried 5 times in total last year because my class was full of assholes. (keep in mind I'm now in 10th grade)
Actually if you had joined our discord last year you could see me whine about school almost daily.
I like to think I'm more mature now, but still, crying is nothing to be ashamed of no matter the age as long as the reason is a good one

Life is essentially meaningless. So in order to find happiness, you must first find your own personal(?) purpose. Something that fulfills you. If it sounds vague, that's because it is. We are all different, so what makes one person happy, doesn't necessarily applies to the other. If it sounds hard, it is hard, because no one can do it for you.

As for maturity, nothing lost, nothing gained. I'm pretty immature myself. Think about your immaturity. Whenever you catch yourself acting like that, try to correct it. And try to figure out exactly what would mature act be in that moment and more importantly why.

just awful. if there's anything you can take from that post that will make things worse, it's that. don't become a stiff caricature of what society's idea of the correct person is.

Becoming a mature person isn't "society's idea of the correct person". People do need to become mature with age. I have classmates who still laugh at jokes you'd see on kids shows.
Skurn, society sucks, yes, but that doesn't mean it's out to get you, or that it's run by corporate pigs who wanna turn everyone into robots, etc.

What the heck 'correct person' person means? I was talking about maturity, and that means the ability to deal with everyday crap effectively... not to do what others expect from you (which on itself is a certain path to hell, because people are usually stupid, two-faced and not worth giving a duck about them... choose friends carefully).

In 90% of cases that I know of, these guys are capable of understanding only that type of humor. Which means they never grew up, and never will. At some point, most of my friends who are like that became too boring to hang out with. Every time I go out with them, it's the same story loop. After a while, you need new things in life. So, for me, those 90% of the guys are my definition of an idiot.

seeing as hes edited out his posts either hes understood something or decided to continue with the current state of things.

All i can say is , look back at this thread a few years down the lane you will be probably understand what we are all were saying.

Immaturity , outrageous imagination its all something that people grow out of someday, for some it happens at a very early age for some it might even take over 30, so keep yourself intact and live the life out to its path.

Exactly. these people have the same recycled jokes they use their whole life, literally. I have a dumb classmate who uses the same jokes over and over again and he (and another dumb dink) laugh at them even after a year. Im serious. And they do these jokes daily.

-good. and let them keep doing so
I'm not trying to steal those shitty jokes from them, i'm just saying what types of people they are. And they are very dumb, unlikeable people who are only liked by people like them.
