An Idea.

Were always hoping new blood will join this cranky community obsessed with fruit, but it rarely happens. I played dink and dmods years before I joined. So I got this idea to draw knew members. What if the dmods were only accessible if you were a member. Meaning someone has to join the community in order to be able to download dmods and dinkedit files. I know this idea sounds stupid, god I agree, but we need to get more members on here, people. This thread is open for more ideas. Lets get more people on here and support the creators of dink!

1.This community is good as it is. New members always join, yes at a slow rate, but they do, and it's still better than the place being full to the brim with members who no one knows and losing it's charm like other forums.
2.Making someone join the community isn't going to change shit. It'll just make more useless inactive accounts because people will just want to download things.
3.As long as people like you join, I'm against this idea

Life? What's that? Can I download it?!
This is probably the tenth thread about suggesting such an idea, or similar ideas.

I don't recommend anything that might deter people from downloading dmods. If there were more people playing dmods, then there would be more people making them and vice versa.

One problem is that we don't know how many people are actually playing the dmods, so if you release a dmod, it might seem like only 6 people even tried it. How many people actually play dmods these days? I have no idea -- maybe it is only 6. If so, there isn't much incentive to make one for that size of audience.

Maybe there is no solution other than to let nature take its course. All good things end eventually. We might just have to accept it.

But if you just want more activity on the forums then Redink1 should just give back all the sock-puppet accounts and the sock-puppets can argue with each other all day....

@Bluedy: baphomet isn't such a bad guy, is he?

Eh, it's a twenty-year-old freeware game, be happy we have as many active people as we do. It's rather astounding, really.

Striker is correct of course. I can't help but to like the concept of creating an adventure game and sharing it with others though. It must have been very exciting releasing a dmod back in the golden age of dmods.

Now there a few left such as Slipdink and Bluedy. I must admit that Slipdink's love of dmods is inspiring. I've actually sort of started another project although I won't likely ever finish it.

It can be hard to let go of things, but that's just part of life. I've enjoyed experiences on TDN. I just wish I'd been around back in those days.

Thanks brassweasel (and others) for your kind words about my enthusiasm here on the DN.

Since some seem to focus on my (relatively recent) active participation in the DN forums and my sincere and active interest the construction and enjoyment of new (to me) dmods, I thought I should step in here and mention a few things.

I think you have good intentions baphomet. I assume you want to increase the number of dmod users and therefore dmod makers. Speaking for myself, I have to admit the price (free!) was just right in getting me interested in the DN so many years ago.

Being somewhat less of a social butterfly than many others, I can assure you that having any barriers to "entry" into the hallowed community of DN-lurking-downloaders, such as requiring membership to download dmods and other files would have stopped me cold. I'm not a "joiner" by nature. Heck, it took me years to get past just downloading and starting up a more active participation here.

That being said, I don't want to stop this discussion that seems to focus on finding what we can do to get more people to make more dmods.

@ Bluedy: I'm not sure what you meant. ??? ???

@ all: Hey, it seems that (historically) the DN has benefited (at least in terms of obtaining new dmods to enjoy) nearly every time a dmod contest has been held!

Now we just had some pretty good results from the hasty "Bloop the Fish" contest. Perhaps we need to think of something else that could inspire those among us to compete once again, in a few weeks or months from now.

Speaking for myself, if the interest level among DN members is maintained for my work, I have plans for as many as two more dmods after my "THE LAST QUEST (part 2): The Iron Ring of Destiny" dmod has been released, even if there is no contest though.
