My bike got stolen so I'm looking for a new one...

These two look good what do you think? Just looking for thoughts/comments/advice/whatever

I'm a regular biker, I don't have special knowledge about bikes, but as it turned out while I was writing a reply, I have a mountain to rant on the subject. Instead of posting all that, I'll try to limit this to just a few biased opinions that are actually somewhat relevant to these two beasts. =)

First off, do you bike a lot? If not, an older, used bike would probably be a smarter investment, since the quality of the bike doesn't really matter that much on short distances and when it's not used often. A fancy new bike will just get stolen again.

The first bike seems to have hand brakes. Hand brakes suck ass. They're more prone to breaking than foot brakes and you have to change the gums regularly for them to work effectively. The second bike seems to have "disc brakes". It can't be better than foot brakes, but I'd give them a go, rather than have to live with gum brakes. Neither of these bikes seem to have "crap shields"... Perhaps they come with the bikes and are just not shown in the pictures, but they're very useful, unless you don't mind getting your back full of shoot each time you go somewhere.

Out of these two, I'd pick the second bike. It seems to have a better braking system, the wiring looks like it's less likely to tangle in things (probably mostly because of the angle, though) and it's cheaper. I would probably change the bench for that, though. Your crotch will thank you.

I'm going to agree with scratcher after close examination of both images.
The second bike also has better coloring than the first one... White is not a good bike color unless you've sanded it down for painting like my friend did.

I'D say the first one, but the second one has a funny name (wooh check out my slick muddyfox), so I'll go for that one
