Adventures of Dink Smallwood Part 1: The Town of Rakuna
Adventures of Dink Smallwood Part 1: The Town of Rakuna - By Lunacre
Grade D Standard
-----
Introduction: Lunacre has, in total, released two DMODs. This is certainly the better of the two, but is not perfect in any way. Once again Dink has a vacation, and once again everything goes wrong. This file was awarded the June 2005 DOTM, which I wanted to see if it deserved.
Storyline: The storyline is one of the most common ever, Dink decides to have a vacation, as previously mentioned and as stated in the description. Would there ever be a DMOD if Dink actually settled down and had a good vacation? Of course not, so once again everything goes wrong. The basic plot is simple and unoriginal, the sub-storyline if there is any is nothing of original quality either. (6.5)
Gameplay: The gameplay however, does have many strengths in its structure. There are many hidden secrets to be found within the game, which are all very interesting and playable, although do not save the fact that the in-game combat is tremendously easy. If perhaps the author had played it through some more prior to release, Lunacre would have seen how easy the combat is, or perhaps the DMOD just wasn't meant to be combat based. (7)
Graphics: Besides the often customized graphics, being the title screen and buttons, nothing much was new here. Original graphics, much of this however is forgivable considering the main character/hero is Dink Smallwood himself. (5)
Audio: The original music again, which although is fine considering the game is based once again on Dink Smallwood, gets extremely repetitive having to listen to the same music for another full DMOD. This was the only audio. (5)
Conclusion: A very good attempt at a DMOD, and overall a very playable game. However lack of originality makes the DMOD slightly irritating, and lowers my final score produced by a rounded mean average of 6. The game however is, as mentioned, still worth a download and is a good way to kill time.
